Panama Canal<br />

The Panama Canal connects the Atlantic Ocean and Pacific<br />

Ocean, running NW to SE from Cristobal on the Atlantic<br />

coast to Balboa on the Pacific coast for a distance of 51 miles<br />

(82km). Vessels transitting the canal are raised and lowered<br />

26.2m from sea level to sea level by three sets of locks. These<br />

are Gatun locks, Pedro Miguel locks and Miraflores locks.<br />

Maximum dimensions of vessels ; max draught 12.04m,<br />

have individual restrictions of less than the above.<br />
