Performance Functions and Effects<br />

Adjusting the currently selected Tone<br />

Use [SELECT] to choose “EFFECT,” “FILTER,” or “ENVELOPE,”<br />

and use the knobs to adjust the Tone settings.<br />

The knob settings will apply only to the currently selected<br />

Tone.<br />

If you’ve used [SELECT] to choose “EFFECT”<br />

Knob<br />

REVERB<br />

CHORUS<br />

Explanation<br />

Reverb adds the reverberation characteristics<br />

of halls or auditoriums. This adjusts the level<br />

of the signal sent to Reverb.<br />

Chorus adds depth and spaciousness to the<br />

sound. This adjusts the level of the signal sent<br />

to Chorus.<br />

If you’ve used [SELECT] to choose “FILTER”<br />

Knob<br />

CUTOFF<br />

You can connect a separately available foot switch (Boss FS-<br />

5U) or a separately available expression pedal (<strong>Roland</strong> EV-5)<br />

to the CONTROL PEDAL jack on the rear panel.<br />

You can assign a variety of functions to this pedal. For details,<br />

refer to “System Parameters” (p. 46).<br />

RESO-<br />

NANCE<br />

Explanation<br />

This specifies the cutoff frequency at which<br />

the filter will begin affecting the spectral<br />

components of the sound. Turn the knob<br />

toward the right to brighten the sound, or<br />

toward the left to darken the sound.<br />

This boosts the sound in the region of the<br />

cutoff frequency, adding a distinctive<br />

character to the sound. Turn the knob toward<br />

the right to strengthen this character, or<br />

toward the left to decrease it.<br />

If you’ve used [SELECT] to choose “ENVELOPE”<br />

Knob<br />

ATTACK<br />

RELEASE<br />

Assignable Pedal<br />

Explanation<br />

Adjusts the attack time (the time from when<br />

you press a key until the sound reaches its full<br />

volume). Turn the knob toward the right to<br />

lengthen the attack time, or toward the left to<br />

shorten it.<br />

Adjusts the release time (the time from when<br />

you release a key until the sound disappears).<br />

Turn the knob toward the right to lengthen the<br />

release time, or toward the left to shorten it.<br />

Using Preset Performances<br />

By selecting a preset Performance, you can quickly recall<br />

settings that are appropriate for the song you’re playing.<br />

When you select a preset performance, settings for the<br />

following items will be recalled.<br />

• Keyboard mode<br />

• Upper Tone/Lower Tone settings<br />

• Style settings<br />

• Song settings<br />

• Effects settings<br />

• Transpose<br />

• Octave shift<br />

• D Beam settings<br />

• Keyboard touch<br />

• Chord mode<br />

• Melody Intelligence<br />

Selecting a Performance ([PERFORM])<br />

The Performance memory locations are organized as follows.<br />

Using the VALUE dial<br />

Explanation<br />

These are the Performances built into the GW-8.<br />

They cannot be overwritten.<br />

You can use these memory locations to store<br />

Performances you’ve edited.<br />

1. Press [PERFORM] so the button is lit.<br />

2. Use the cursor buttons to move the cursor to the right of<br />

“PERFORM,” located in the upper left of the screen, then<br />

use the VALUE dial to choose “PRST” or “USER.”<br />

You’ll be able to select preset Performances if you choose<br />

“PRST,” or user Performances if you choose “USER.”<br />

3. Use the cursor buttons to move the cursor to the<br />

Performance number, and use the VALUE dial to select a<br />

Performance.<br />

When the cursor in the screen is at the Performance number,<br />

you can also select a Performance by turning [NUMERIC] on,<br />

using the TONE SELECT buttons to enter a Performance<br />

number, and then pressing [ENTER].<br />
