Driving (MADD) is to stop drunk driving,
support the victims of this violent crime
and prevent underage drinking.

warning against the dangers
of UNDERAGE DRINKING.

Why Katie?
Katie DeCubellis was a 13 year old, all
american girl, who tragically lost her life at
the hands of a drunk driver on October 29,
1999. Your typical middle school girl, Katie
loved to hang out with her friends, play
sports and dance. She spent the weekends
having sleepovers with her best friends
Lauren, Kristin, Becky and Jess, and just
having fun.
! Katie loved to help others. She
donated her time whenever possible, whether
it be volunteering at a soup kitchen,
babysitting her younger siblings or doing
yard work for a neighbor. Katie also had big
dreams of one day becoming a Pediatrician
and saving young lives. Although Katie was
unable to reach that dream, she is still
saving young lives today through her story.
KATIE’S GIFT WILL:
SAVE YOUNG LIVES THROUGH THE
EDUCATION of students in order to EMPOWER
them with the information they need to make
healthy decision to PRESERVE their futures.
Katie’s Gift is:
• A 45 minute educational presentation targeted to students grades 5 to 8.
• Including an interactive Q & A session.
Katie’s Gift educate’s students about:
• The truth of what alcohol really is.
To help Katie achieve her dream of saving
young lives, one of Katie’s best friends,
Lauren, created this program “Katie’s Gift”.
As the Youth Coordinator for MADD
Connecticut, Lauren presents this educational
program to Middle School students in hopes of
saving their young lives through Katie’s story.
• The facts about underage drinking.
• How drinking alcohol underage affects their young brains.
• Realistic consequences of underage drinking.
• Tips for saying “No”.
• An eye opening story demonstrating why it is important to stay drug free.
