Celebrating the “Master” of
Odfjell Terminal (Jiangyin)
Close Encounter

For the first time, one of our own
vessels berthed at Odfjell Terminals
(Jiangyin).
On October 9 Bow Master with
assistance of two tug boats,
successfully moored alongside berth
No.1 for discharging 4794.717mt Nitric
Acid.
The discharging process went smoothly
and safely according to prepared plan.
The following day a delegation from
Odfjell Shanghai and the terminal went
on board Bow Master. Mr. Chang Li,
General Manager of OTJ, presented
a gift to Captain Lopez Christopher
Sevilla, the gift being an Olympic
souvenir, a model of the Bird Nest
Stadium. Chief mate Gabriel Ronald
Bataan accompanied the delegation
to see the bridge, engine room,
maintenance room etc. and after the
tour the Captain invited the guests to
lunch. We all had a wonderfully time.

Benitez, to be the watchman on Bow
Fagus when we had a close encounter
with whales at Richards Bay anchorage
area in August. At first, when hearing this
unusual sound at the starboard side of the
ship we thought it was a small boat, but
when the sound got closer we saw these
creatures of the sea, being four whales,
swimming around the ship.

Management System
(TMS) is now live in
Houston since more
than two months
and one of the end
user in Houston,
Tina Rosenberry,
Commercial
Assistant Contract Administrator, is
satisfied with the new system.
- With the TMS, we are now able to
create actual print outs for proposals,
agreements, escalation letters and
contract amendments in the system.
TMS enables us to consolidate multiple
customer numbers for the same
customer and only use one. This was
not possible in the old system. With
TMS we can now create “so called”
Umbrella Contracts covering contracts
like Eastman.“Special Bills” in the old
system are now automatically handled
in the new system via the Billing Plan.
Overall we realize that TMS requires
less micromanagement freeing up
more time to concentrate on strategic
topics.
As TMS is new we are still learning and
will realize the full potential of TMS in
the next weeks and months. Despite
the obstacles we need to deal with we
are confident that TMS will help us
improve our business in the future,
says Tina Rosenberry.
For our 2008 Officers’ Conference we
restructured the setup slightly, so that
Filippino SMTs serving on ships in the
two Bergen fleets attended the Bergen
Conference. Time allowed for a tour of the
Bergen Head Office.
