Physical Education (continued)<br />

Cross-Country Skiing - Intensive<br />
Students will be exposed to the various skills required in<br />
cross country skiing, and will learn how these skills are<br />
developed and evaluated. Skills include flat skiing,<br />
climbing, descents and turns as well as waxing<br />
information. Students will ski in ability groups at Orford<br />
Park and Mont Bruno Park.<br />
There is an obligatory transportation fee for this course.<br />
Equipment will be provided.<br />

Canoeing-Kayaking Intensive<br />
Students will be exposed to the various skills required in<br />
canoeing and kayaking and will learn how these skills are<br />
developed and evaluated. This course will be held on<br />
three consecutive days at both the Parc national des Ilesde-Boucherville<br />
and Parc de la Rivière des Mille-Iles and<br />
is designed for the beginner to intermediate paddler.<br />
There is an obligatory transportation and equipment<br />
rental fee associated with this course.<br />
Absolute Prerequisite: Student must be comfortable in<br />
the water.<br />

Racquetball<br />
This course introduces the student to the basic skills and<br />
strategy, along with the rules and regulations of the game.<br />
<strong>Course</strong> content includes types of serves and service returns,<br />
forehand, backhand, passing shots, defensive shots, and<br />
back wall play. Basic singles and doubles strategy will be<br />
dealt with. There is an obligatory transportation/court fee<br />
associated with this course. Equipment will be provided.<br />

Canoe-Camping (intensive)<br />
Students will learn various skills specific to canoeing,<br />
including stroke development, and safety & equipment<br />
concerns. Topics in the camping process such as<br />
equipment, set-up, and environmental concerns will be<br />
discussed and implemented. The course will be held<br />
Labour Day week end (Fri evening –Sun evening) in The<br />
Laurentians along the Riviere-Rouge. The <strong>Course</strong> is open<br />
for beginners to intermediate paddlers. Food, all canoe<br />
equipment (PFD, paddle, canoe, etc), transportation and<br />
camping equipment is provided. Students must provide<br />
their own sleeping bag and attend two obligatory<br />
meetings before the trip.<br />

Soccer<br />
This course is designed to develop and improve various<br />
technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills<br />
enabling the student to enjoy the game on a recreational<br />
or competitive basis. FIFA rules, regulations and<br />
organization of indoor and outdoor soccer will also be<br />
covered.<br />

Tennis<br />
This course is designed to develop basic skills and interest<br />
in tennis for the student’s enjoyment as a recreational<br />
activity. Basic skills such as the serve, forehand, backhand,<br />
volley and overhead, as well as the basic strategy of singles<br />
and double play will be covered. There is an obligatory<br />
transportation/court fee associated with this course.<br />
Equipment will be provided.<br />

Volleyball<br />
This course is designed to develop basic skills and<br />
interest in volleyball for the student's enjoyment as a<br />
recreational activity. Basic skills such as volleying,<br />
bumping, serving, setting and spiking will be covered<br />
along with the rules of the game. Offensive and<br />
defensive tactics will also be introduced.<br />

Snowboarding (intensive)<br />
Students will be exposed to the various skills required in<br />
snowboarding and will learn how these skills are<br />
developed and evaluated. This course will be held on<br />
three full days in January at Mt. Bromont and/or Mt.<br />
Orford Ski Centre and is designed for the beginner to<br />
intermediate snowboarder. There is an obligatory<br />
transportation and lift ticket fee associated with this<br />
course. Students must either own or rent equipment (at<br />
an extra charge).<br />
