Graphic Communications (412.A3) - Office Systems Technology Program (412.A0)<br />
Entrance Requirement<br />
In order to be admitted to a program leading to a Diploma<br />
of <strong>College</strong> Studies (DEC), candidates must possess a Quebec<br />
Secondary School Diploma including Math CST 4 or have<br />
completed a level of education that is deemed equivalent<br />
by the <strong>College</strong>. Additional admissions requirements can be<br />

General Program Goal<br />
Graphic Communications is a career program created to<br />
meet the needs of the current job market. This three-year<br />
program will prepare students to work in the dynamic and<br />
rapidly growing communications design industry.<br />
Knowledge and practical experience:<br />
<strong>Champlain</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>Saint</strong>-<strong>Lambert</strong>'s Graphic<br />
Communications students will benefit from a hands-on<br />
approach that includes a professional Internship. This<br />
apprenticeship provides students with eight weeks of<br />
full-time work experience, and gives employers the<br />
opportunity to evaluate their trainees as potential<br />
employees. The department has a well-established network<br />
of organizations that participate in this project.<br />
Students will also establish and manage their own business<br />
centre on site. This component of the program gives<br />
students the opportunity to create promotional material,<br />
design web sites and develop expertise in operating a small<br />
business.<br />
The Facilities:<br />
Graphic Communications labs are equipped with Macintosh<br />
and Windows computers with Internet access, laser and<br />
colour printers, scanners and digital cameras. Industry<br />
standard software is available on both platforms.<br />
Graduate Profile<br />
The mission of the Graphic Communications program is to<br />
develop well-rounded, versatile graduates who are able to<br />
design, produce and manage all aspects of<br />
communications, including printed, multimedia, and Web<br />
documents. Knowledgeable in the latest software, students<br />
will have the creative and technical expertise to succeed in<br />
the exciting field of print and multimedia design and to help<br />
meet the needs of Quebec employers and the design<br />
community at large.<br />
Software Skills:<br />
• Use and integrate software programs including Adobe<br />
Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design, Flash,<br />
Dreamweaver, Acrobat) and QuarkXPress, HTML and<br />
JavaScript<br />
Print and Multimedia Design Skills:<br />
• Design page layouts<br />
• Create and edit graphic images<br />
• Understand photographic aesthetics and basic visual<br />
language concepts<br />
• Design and produce promotional materials and<br />
publications including brochures, posters,<br />
advertisements, manuals, forms, newsletters,<br />
newspapers, magazines, and corporate identity kits<br />
• Create interactive multimedia presentations<br />
• Create and design interactive web sites<br />
Communication Skills:<br />
• Communicate orally in both English and French<br />
• Write and edit business and promotional documents in<br />
English and in French<br />
• Apply effective human relations skills in the workplace<br />
Business Management Skills:<br />
• Understand consumer behaviour and match appropriate<br />
media and messages<br />
• Develop a business plan and understand what is<br />
required to succeed in a business venture<br />
• Organize and manage a graphic communication<br />
