Reservations<br />

(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />

In this course, issues and procedures for reservations will<br />

be examined as they pertain to the tourism and travel<br />

sectors. Consequently the focus will be on data based<br />

systems as they apply to today’s industry and more<br />

specifically for the management of reservations. This<br />

course will continue to develop the student’s knowledge<br />

and understanding of automation and the principles<br />

apply to many sectors of the travel and tourism industry.<br />

Tourism Promotion Practicum<br />

(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />

The promotion skills acquired in the Tourism Promotion<br />

course (5 th semester) will now be applied. This will<br />

involve formulating promotion objectives, brochure<br />

creation, organizing public presentations and the<br />

production of a complete promotion plan.<br />

Work-study<br />

(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />

This last course is the second required element of the<br />

comprehensive assessment. Here, students will apply<br />

their acquired knowledge and skills in an actual tourism<br />

work environment. It involves work-study placement,<br />

working in a Tourism host institution in at least two (2)<br />

different departments for eight (8) weeks, regular<br />

progress reporting, the preparation of a work-study<br />

report, and an evaluation during and at the end of the<br />

work-study period.<br />

At the end of the process, all students are called back to<br />

the college for one day intensive evaluations which<br />

includes an oral presentation of their work-study and<br />

Portfolio before a panel of faculty and industry<br />

professionals. This will complete the Comprehensive<br />

Assessment for the Tourism Program.<br />

Prerequisite: Successful completion of ALL courses in<br />

the Tourism program<br />

Tourism Portfolio<br />

(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />

This course focuses on continuing the preparation for the<br />

Work-study and the development of a Tourism<br />

Management portfolio. This portfolio is a required<br />

element of the Comprehensive assessment for every<br />

graduating student. To properly prepare students for<br />

their Work Studies and future careers. The development<br />

of a portfolio reflects the learning and achievements<br />

obtained throughout the program. The Portfolio must<br />

include original copies of substantive reports,<br />

assignments, and projects, in a way that shows<br />

professionalism and that “markets” the student. The<br />

completeness, professionalism and quality of the<br />

portfolio will be evaluated in the course. A successful<br />

portfolio will contain documents reflecting the students’<br />

attainment of competencies and abilities outlined in the<br />

Tourism Graduate Profile and a conclusion representing<br />

the students’ personal reflection of their own progress<br />

over the 3 years of the program.<br />

and 5 th semester courses.
