This course will give the students an understanding of<br />
the tourism industry, its structure, the 8 sectors, and its<br />
basic terminology. The past, present and the future of<br />
tourism will be studied in terms of global and national<br />
perspectives. The focus of the course will be on tourism<br />
entry-level employment and management careers.<br />
Students will be encouraged to practice time<br />
management and other study techniques.<br />

Computer Applications for Tourism<br />
(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />
In this course students will examine the importance of<br />
technology and computer applications for the travel and<br />
tourism industry. Topics that will be addressed will include<br />
the essentials of computer systems, Microsoft Office, the<br />
use of the Internet, as well as technological advances as<br />
they pertain to the travel and tourism industry.<br />
Simultaneously, lab emphasis will be on learning to work<br />
with the computer as an effective tool.<br />

Customer Service Management<br />

In this course, students will examine all the components<br />
involved in providing excellent customer service. Particular<br />
emphasis will be placed on welcoming tourist clients - the<br />
hospitality process of customer service in the various<br />
tourism sectors. Moreover students will learn the<br />
importance of professionalism when working with tourists<br />
and will include developing skills on how to intervene in<br />
situations that require protocol, how to resolve conflicts,<br />
and how to use the phone as a means of rendering quality<br />
customer service. Guest speakers and outings will<br />
complement the course.<br />

(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />
Training for a career in tourism cannot go without being<br />
exposed to the tourism industry outside the college. All<br />
tourism businesses are different in terms of their<br />
operations, how they are managed, and what the<br />
responsibilities are of their employers. The course, then,<br />
gives the students the necessary eye-opener into several<br />
tourism service companies to gain an early understanding of<br />
the working world. This will also facilitate the student’s<br />
preparation for a career orientation in the tourism industry.<br />

This course will analyze the range of tourism supply by<br />
categorizing different products and services. Tourist<br />
products and services will be considered from the point<br />
of view of business marketing. Students will not only<br />
compare various products, services, and attractions, but<br />
also identify business opportunities.<br />

Tourism Research Methods<br />
(Concentration course for Tourism students only)<br />
This course is a step-by-step guide to researching and<br />
writing about topics pertinent to the Tourism Industry.<br />
During the semester a practical “hands-on” approach will<br />
provide the framework for understanding how to assess,<br />
read, evaluate and manage information. By the end of<br />
the course the students will have examined the entire<br />
process of doing research and will have designed a<br />
research project of their own. Accordingly, computers<br />
will support this dynamic process as the learner advances<br />
through the different stages of research.<br />
