Graphic Communication I<br />
(Concentration course for Graphic Communications<br />
students only)<br />
This course introduces students to digital graphic design<br />
and includes the fundamentals of visual design for print<br />
and screen media. Students will be introduced to<br />
typography and will learn to use type as a graphic<br />
element. They will learn about line, shape and texture<br />
and be encouraged to research and sketch out ideas to<br />
illustrate their concepts. Various approaches to problem<br />
solving of graphic concepts will help students develop<br />
their imagination and information about design history<br />
will give them useful visual references. Methodology:<br />
lectures, on-screen computer demonstrations, hands-on<br />
applications and theory and/or practical tests.<br />

Microsoft Office<br />
(Concentration course for Graphic Communications<br />
students only)<br />
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of<br />
Microsoft Office – a package of integrated software<br />
applications. Students will learn the concepts of Word,<br />
Excel and PowerPoint and acquire experience in<br />
integrating information among these applications.<br />
Methodology: lectures, multimedia demonstrations and<br />
hands-on applications, research on the Web, integrated<br />
projects.<br />

students only)<br />
Oral communication is a measurable skills and a valuable<br />
asset. Effective communication skills will improve<br />
students’ critical thinking, clarify their ideas, and improve<br />
their chances of employability. This course teaches<br />
students how to speak clearly and confidently in a variety<br />
of situations. You will learn individually as well as within<br />
a team, how to plan, organize, and deliver a speech. The<br />
preparation, writing, and presentations will be an<br />
integral part of this course.<br />
Methodology: Multimedia lectures, Web research, team<br />
projects, individual and group presentations.<br />

Digital Graphics I: Adobe Photoshop<br />
(Concentration course for Graphic Communications<br />
students only)<br />
Using Adobe Photoshop, the powerful industry standard<br />
image editing program, students will learn how to<br />
manipulate digital images. They will study image<br />
structure, resolution and colour models. Students will<br />
explore techniques and program features to create and<br />
edit original and composite artwork as well as alter<br />
photographs, process scanned images, and optimize<br />
sophisticated graphics for print and digital end uses.<br />
Methodology: on-screen computer demonstrations,<br />
hands-on tutorials, creative projects where concepts are<br />
explored through sketching, and tests.<br />

Business Communication<br />

students only)<br />
Clear and purposeful communication is the basis for<br />
business success. Students will develop the ability to<br />
plan, research, write, edit and format effective business<br />
documents using a variety of media. Through a variety of<br />
projects, students will learn and apply specific writing<br />
techniques and organizational strategies to compose<br />
clear, concise and purposeful letters, e-mails, reports and<br />
other business messages.<br />
Methodology: lectures, web research, writing and<br />
editing exercises.<br />

Graphic Communication 2<br />
(Concentration course for Graphic Communications<br />
students only)<br />
Good visual communication can be a very powerful tool.<br />
This course continues the basics covered in Graphic<br />
Communication I. Students will have the opportunity to<br />
apply their design skills and techniques by creating<br />
original designs using Photoshop, Illustrator, and<br />
InDesign. Typography, color and layout are explored in<br />
greater depth through research and sketches.<br />
Communications skills will also be developed through<br />
written project rationale and oral presentations.<br />
Methodology: lectures, on-screen demonstrations,<br />
practical and theory tests.<br />
