Fundamentals of Business<br />
(Level I Business Administration for Social Science<br />
students only)<br />
In this course, students will be introduced to a broad<br />
range of topics related to the structures and operations<br />
of business in Canadian society. Specific functions of<br />
business such as marketing, finance, human resources,<br />
management, production of both goods and services and<br />
IT for business will be introduced, giving the student a<br />
general understanding of how business functions.<br />

Marketing<br />

students only)<br />
This course will explore the influence of marketing on the<br />
consumer decision-making process. A combination of<br />
lectures and case studies will include the study of consumer<br />
behavior, market research, product policy, pricing,<br />
advertising and distribution, including global and internet<br />
channels and e-commerce. The student will develop the<br />
knowledge necessary to analyze marketing situations using<br />
appropriate concepts and theories and be able to apply<br />
marketing concepts to respond to real world case studies.<br />
Students will also gain some familiarity with marketing on<br />
the web using current software.<br />

Management<br />
(Level II Business Administration for Social Science<br />
students only)<br />
In this course students will study the functions and<br />
techniques of managing an organization such as a small<br />
or medium sized business. They will develop an<br />
appreciation for various business management concepts<br />
and will apply these concepts to real world cases. Topics<br />
include the basic principles and practices of managing<br />
contemporary businesses, the challenges associated with<br />
managing people, the importance of total quality<br />
management and the importance of financial<br />
management.<br />

Commercial Law<br />
(Level II Business Administration for Social Science<br />
students only)<br />
This in-depth course provides the student with an<br />
understanding of the business environment from the<br />
legal point of view. The basic legal structure in Quebec<br />
and the various laws which affect individuals and<br />
business enterprises will be studies; both laws and court<br />
decisions will be examined. While the accent is on<br />
business situations, students considering further studies<br />
in law at the university level many also find this course of<br />
interest.<br />

Entrepreneurship<br />
(Level II Business Administration for Social Science<br />
students only)<br />
This course explains the entrepreneurial way of thinking<br />
and acting, methods of testing the feasibility of an idea,<br />
skills needed to succeed in business, methods of raising<br />
capital, marketing possibilities and how to develop a<br />
business plan. The students will gain an understanding of<br />
the nature of innovation, the personal risk required, and<br />
the legal implications of being an entrepreneur. They will<br />
work on a business plan for a new business, and this will<br />
require researching opportunities, analyzing the financial<br />
criteria, and preparing and presenting a workable<br />
proposal to a potential source of financing. The proposal<br />
will be prepared using appropriate information<br />
technology.<br />

Financial Investment Planning<br />
(Level II Business Administration for Social Science<br />
students only)<br />
The student will be introduced to various investment and<br />
insurance vehicles available from financial institutions.<br />
The techniques of planning for the individual financial<br />
needs and the tax implications of these plans will be<br />
explored.<br />
