more distinctive with age
RHEINZINK ® is the world’s leading brand of architectural-zinc for
building applications. Generally known as “titanium-zinc”, RHEINZINK is
a natural-weathering metal that forms a blue gray patina after repeated
exposure to moisture and air.
Combining 99% super high-grade zinc with approximately 1% titanium
and copper, the RHEINZINK alloy can help provide long-term solutions
for roofs, wall cladding and gutters.
The engineered zinc-alloy also helps designers provide a natural gray
colour compliment or contrast to brick, concrete/CMU slate, stone or
wood while achieving a long service life.
RHEINZINK is a monolithic metal that is low-maintenance, malleable,
and has no colour coating. For almost 300 years, zinc has been used
by European designers and sheet-metal craftsman to create structures
that endure.
Since 1993, RHEINZINK has been used in North America on college and
corporate campuses, libraries, cultural centers, and residential projects.
RHEINZINK is recognized as a low environmental impact metal of choice
that is both beautiful and cost-effective.
longevity
Due to the excellent corrosion resistance of zinc, covering systems with RHEINZINK ® - Titanium Zinc have an extremely long life span. Used as roofing in
urban environments it is estimated to last 80 to 100 years. As a facade covering, due to lesser erosion exposure, this lifespan increases to 200 to 300 years.
façades
flat lock tile system
The flat overlapping seams of the Flat Lock Tile System provides
a subtle grid texture to modulate both simple, rectilinear
complex or curvilinear facades. For ultimate design flexibility, tiles
can be manufactured to individual scale requirements.
diamond and square tiles system
These tiles are available in square or diamond shapes. Unlike sheets
or shingles of similar appearance, these have forward bent edges on
the top surface and backward bent edges along the lower surface
to form simple interlocking joints. The individual tiles allow design
solutions to cover facades of complex geometry and tight radii.
angled standing seam system
The RHEINZINK ® -Angled Standing System, commonly used on
facades, exhibits strong linear shadows produced by its angled
seam configuration. The widespread availability of standing seam
fabrication machines ensures consistent forming of panel edges
as well as closing of the seams. Differing panel lengths and widths
make it possible to achieve even the most complicated geometries.
corrugated profile system
The flowing shape of the classic sine wave can impart a linear
filigree effect to corrugated profiles. Installed horizontally, vertically
or diagonally, all configurations allow visible panel individuation
to scale the façade and express building structure. The delicate
effect of the interplay of light and shade renders a visual fluidity
and liveliness to larger expanses.
oll cap system
The Roll Cap System is the oldest of roof application available
today. A strip of wood is used to hold the cap, which fits between
the panels. The trays and caps are machine formed, guaranteeing
maximum precision.
trapezoidal profile system
The crisp edged, rib-shaped design of the trapezoidal profile
conveys a cool language of form in horizontal, vertical and
diagonal arrangements. The chiaroscuro effect produced as light
strikes, is of greater intensity than in the corrugated profile, which
has a somewhat subdued effect. Trapezoidal profiles can be
installed with the front of back face exposed.
shiplap panel system
Due to its layered character and shadowless joint, the shiplap
panel represents a different type of facade cladding. The strong
contours of its profile geometry create crisp, linear shadows
in bright sunlight. After detailed planning and precise profile
fabrication, an easy and economical on-site assembly can
be achieved.
vertical reveal panel system
The advantage of a reveal panel is in the range of face and joint
dimensions. The reveal panel offers the architect an exceptional
amount of freedom in implementing design ideas considering the
flexibility of horizontal, vertical or diagonal installation directions.
Panel face widths and reveal joints may be optimized to suit
various architectural configurations and conditions.
– E L E M E N TA L B E A U T Y –
horizontal reveal panel system
Horizontal Reveal Panels System are visually reminiscent to
those of their origin in wooden facades. Panel end joints can be
configured to produce continuous, intermediate vertical joints
or to be staggered and recede allowing the horizontal joints to
be emphasized.
special solutions
The term special solutions is used by RHEINZINK ® to describe the
combinations of and/or variations of systems. Very large surfaces
in particular, which could appear monotonous can be enhanced by
various facade coverings. Z-profiles, thin sheet louvers and other
profiles that are able to form an edge can be custom manufactured –
after consultation with RHEINZINK’s Technical Department.
double lock standing seam system
The Double Lock Standing Seam System is a further development
of the original hollow folding joint or single standing seam used for
zinc material. First described in technical literature in 1899, it is the
preferred method of application for roofs with a slope of 6 in 12 or
less with a minimum slope of 5/8 in 12.
With a minimum seam height of 1” (25 mm), the double lock is
measurably more weather resistant than the angle lock and is the
preferred seam type for most roofing applications; especially for
low slope roofing.
Sometimes prefabricated in profiles with a seam height of 1-1/2”
(38 mm), it has become an international standard. Bending and
closing the panel seams can be done manually or mechanically
using electric seaming machines.
Special designs such as convex and concave curves or conical
assemblies can be fabricated without difficulty. Due to the range
of possible variations in its detailing, the fine linear design of the
Double Lock Standing Seam complements both traditional and
modern architecture.
angled standing seam system
The Angled Standing Seam System is a 20th century development.
It is used on roofs with a minimum slope greater than 6 in 12.
Simply folding in one leg of the joint, creates the finished Angled
Standing Seam System. The Angled Standing Seam System is
particularly suitable for visible areas of the design of steep metal
roofs and for parapets and mansard slopes, etc. With a visually
broader seam, than that of the Double Lock Standing Seam, the
Angled Standing Seam gives applications with a large surface area
a lively and striking appearance.
interlocking tiles system
The RHEINZINK ® - Interlocking Tiles System consist of rectangular,
diamond and square shaped tiles. Contrary to shingles with a
similar look, these tiles have hemmed edges (over along the top
edge, under along the bottom) which interlock to form simple
joints. Easy to fabricate and install, the interlocking tiles are a
perfect solution for curved surfaces. Appropriate for roofs with a
minimum of 3 in 12 pitch, this system requires a ventilation mat or
ProRoofing coating.
roll cap system
The Roll Cap System is considered the most traditional of the
roofing methods currently in use today. The name Strip Seam Joint
indicates a type of longitudinal joint in which a wooden batten with
clips, or the RHEINZINK ® Roll Cap holder, made of galvanized
steel, is installed between the panels as the attachment method.
A strip cap covers both attachment method alternatives.
The RHEINZINK ® - Roll Cap System guarantees maximum precision
and efficient installation because the panels and covering caps are
produced in one single process with the use of a roll-former.
The large scale of the Roll Cap System makes the system especially
appropriate for large roof surfaces. The highly structured
effect of the longitudinal joints produces sharp shadows as the
sun angle changes. The combination of the Roll Cap System
joint and Double Lock Standing Seam techniques allow for even
more variations.
roof coverings. QUICK STEP is suitable for a large variety of roof
shapes, with slopes between 2 in 12 and 33 in 12. In combination
with the appropriate attachment system, the snap-in, prefabricated
components made of 22 gauge (0.8 mm) thick ”preweathered pro”
RHEINZINK, most of which are prefabricated, guarantee that the
assembly can be completed quickly and with ease. QUICK STEP
also opens up a wide range of possibilities from a design point
of view.
The stepshaped system creates a strong but elegant format
for the roof surface. Innovative accessories such as the new
connection frame, developed especially for roof penetrations,
complete the QUICK STEP.
RHEINZINK ® - bright rolled RHEINZINK ® - “preweathered pro blue-gray” RHEINZINK ® - “preweathered pro graphite-gray”
RHEINZINK ® is available in three finishes: RHEINZINK ® - bright rolled – mill
finish. Through the course of natural weathering, the bright rolled material
turns into a classic blue-gray. The patina provides protection; the material
always looks great, without needing additional maintenance or cleaning.
RHEINZINK ® -“preweathered pro blue-gray“ and “preweathered pro graphite-gray“
– an elegant variation. These materials leave the factory – with
the look of a finished zinc patina. RHEINZINK has patented this process,
which is unique world-wide. The surface appearance changes marginally
(influenced by the environment) – the properties of the natural surface
remain fully intact. Special maintenance or cleaning is not required; the
self-healing properties of the material allow each and every scratch to
disappear over time. RHEINZINK products provide an opportunity for
LEED projects. Following comprehensive evaluation of its complete life
cycle, it has been certified as an environmentally friendly building product
by Cradle to Cradle at the Silver level and by ISO as a 14025, Type III product.
RHEINZINK is ASTM B69 compliant for Types 1 and 2.
