Significance <strong>of</strong> This Study<br />

First, if <strong>the</strong>re is a correlation between <strong>the</strong> <strong>athletes</strong>’ scores on <strong>the</strong> Hahm-Beller Values<br />

Choice Inventory <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ergogenic Aids Moral Competence Inventory it would help establish<br />

construct <strong>and</strong> convergent validity <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Ergogenic Aids Moral Competence Inventory. Along<br />

with o<strong>the</strong>r construct measures it would help in establishing that <strong>the</strong> Ergogenic Aids Moral<br />

Competence Inventory validly measures <strong>the</strong> <strong>moral</strong> <strong>reasoning</strong> <strong>of</strong> doping in sport.<br />

Second, while researchers have found that <strong>athletic</strong> <strong>training</strong> <strong>student</strong>s <strong>moral</strong>ly reason<br />

similar to <strong>student</strong> <strong>athletes</strong> in general sport, this study could help in identifying how <strong>athletic</strong><br />

<strong>training</strong> <strong>student</strong>s may be similar or dissimilar to <strong>student</strong> <strong>athletes</strong> in <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>moral</strong> <strong>reasoning</strong> relative<br />

to doping in sport. If <strong>the</strong>ir <strong>reasoning</strong> is at similarly low levels identified in general sport <strong>moral</strong><br />

<strong>reasoning</strong>, <strong>the</strong>n researchers, administrators <strong>and</strong> educators may have a basis to include <strong>moral</strong><br />

<strong>reasoning</strong> intervention programs specific to anti-doping in <strong>athletic</strong> <strong>training</strong> education programs.<br />

Third, this study may provide insight into <strong>the</strong> extent to which institutions <strong>of</strong> higher<br />

education <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> NCAA meet <strong>the</strong>ir ideal stated purposes <strong>of</strong> developing character. In <strong>the</strong> current<br />

assessment focus <strong>of</strong> higher education, information from this study may help higher education <strong>and</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong>ir <strong>athletic</strong> administrations better identify <strong>the</strong> extent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir character education goals, as well<br />

as help provide possible educational directions.<br />
