Researchers’ statement<br />

We are asking you to participate in a research study. The purpose <strong>of</strong> this consent form is to give you <strong>the</strong><br />

information you will need to help you decide whe<strong>the</strong>r to be in <strong>the</strong> study or not. Please read <strong>the</strong> form<br />

carefully. You may ask questions about <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> research, what we would ask you to do, <strong>the</strong><br />

possible risks <strong>and</strong> benefits, your rights as a participant, <strong>and</strong> anything else about <strong>the</strong> research or this form<br />

that is not clear. When we have answered all your questions, you can decide if you want to give<br />

permission to participate in <strong>the</strong> study or not. This process is called ‘informed consent.’ We will give you a<br />

copy <strong>of</strong> this form for your records.<br />

PURPOSE AND BENEFITS<br />

This project is a study about college <strong>student</strong> <strong>athletes</strong>’ <strong>and</strong> <strong>athletic</strong> <strong>training</strong> <strong>student</strong>s’ perceptions about<br />

why doping occurs in sport <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> ethical issues surrounding doping in sport.<br />

PROCEDURES<br />

All volunteers will be asked to complete two different inventories. One will measure level <strong>of</strong> <strong>moral</strong><br />

<strong>reasoning</strong> using scenarios related to general ethical issues that commonly occur <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r will<br />

measure <strong>moral</strong> <strong>reasoning</strong> using scenarios related specifically to issues surrounding doping. The data<br />

collection will be a one-time process. Completion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> surveys should take no more than 15 minutes.<br />

RISKS, STRESS, OR DISCOMFORT<br />

The research in which you will be participating does not involve more than <strong>the</strong> foreseeable risks involved<br />

in <strong>the</strong> day to day interactions in a sport <strong>and</strong> competitive venue.<br />

OTHER INFORMATION<br />

Data from your participation will remain confidential in a locked cabinet at <strong>the</strong> WSU Assessment <strong>and</strong><br />

Evaluation Center. The PI <strong>and</strong> Co-PIs will have access to this information for research purposes <strong>and</strong> that<br />

data may be published without any identifiers to you.<br />

There is no compensation associated with this study.<br />
