OFFICE OF CAMPUS LIFE MISSION STATEMENT<br />
We are responsible for providing and creating a residential environment which is conducive<br />
to both social and academic pursuits. The <strong>of</strong>fice has four pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff members, four<br />
graduate assistants and approximately 44 para-pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff who live in the residential<br />
halls and houses to <strong>of</strong>fer personal and academic support, residential activities, and work to<br />
provide a respectful and engaging community.<br />
<strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> and Leadership<br />
When you become a <strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> (RA) you become a member <strong>of</strong> a group <strong>of</strong> leaders<br />
on campus who play a very important role. The RA is an individual who lives with and<br />
represents a number <strong>of</strong> students living in the residence halls. The RA serves as a role<br />
model and facilitator for interaction, support, and academic achievement. RAs work<br />
together to develop community within the residence halls and support the individual goals <strong>of</strong><br />
their students.<br />
Tasks <strong>of</strong> a <strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong><br />
Serve as a leader and role model to <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> Wesleyan College students<br />
Support missions <strong>of</strong> <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong> Wesleyan College and the <strong>Office</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Campus</strong> <strong>Life</strong><br />
Live on a floor and represent a number <strong>of</strong> residents<br />
Complete duty expectations for a particular residence hall area<br />
Assist residents with community and campus needs<br />
Attend staff meetings and RA training<br />
Serve as a catalyst for community development by completing programs and activities<br />
Assist in the opening and closing <strong>of</strong> residence halls throughout the academic year<br />

The <strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong><br />
RAs are individuals who are problem solvers and can help us make the residence hall a<br />
community. RAs are students that are academically successful and can be supportive <strong>of</strong><br />
other’s academic goals. RAs encourage a positive multicultural environment. <strong>West</strong> <strong>Virginia</strong><br />
Wesleyan College <strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> positions are for individuals who want to improve<br />
themselves by gaining valuable leadership experience.<br />
Required:<br />
Must be a full time student<br />
A cumulative G.P.A. <strong>of</strong> 2.5<br />
No major judicial incidents<br />
Work ethic, responsible, and a team player<br />
Attend RA training and required events<br />
Important Information<br />
January 25 th 2012: RA <strong>Application</strong>s are due in the <strong>Campus</strong> <strong>Life</strong> <strong>Office</strong> by<br />
4:00pm. Please submit the application and letter <strong>of</strong> interest together along<br />
with any letters <strong>of</strong> reference.<br />
January 28 th 2013: Interviewing Process begins<br />
Letter <strong>of</strong> Interest and Resume:<br />
o As part <strong>of</strong> the application process, you are asked to submit a cover letter and a resume<br />
outlining your interest in the RA position. You are encouraged to provide an overview <strong>of</strong><br />
your experiences and how you might be qualified to assume the RA role. Please use the<br />
cover letter as a representation <strong>of</strong> your talents and abilities. The cover letter and resume<br />
should be typed. Please enclose all <strong>of</strong> your materials in your application booklet. If all<br />
application materials are not submitted, your application will be considered incomplete<br />
and will not be considered for the <strong>Resident</strong> <strong>Assistant</strong> position. If you have a preference,<br />
please identify all residence halls that you are interested in working in. IF there is not<br />
enough space for your answers please type them and place the typed copy within this<br />
application.<br />

Applicants must have at least a 2.5 GPA, must be at least a Sophomore in credit hours by the end <strong>of</strong> the Spring Semester.<br />
