dinner guests, he saw a man there who
was not dressed in wedding clothes,
Again, not having the garments of salvation,
not properly attired for the Marriage
Supper of the Lamb.
…and he said to him, ‘Friend, how
did you come in here without wedding
clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
(Mt. 22:10-12)
When unsaved people who reject the
Gospel stand before the Lord, they will be
speechless. Atheists will be speechless;
they will have nothing to say. They will
have nothing to say to the King.
In Judaism, Yahweh is a King. Hebrew
prayers are, again, prefaced by the liturgical
introduction, “Baruch Atah Adonai,
Eloheinu Melech ha’olam” – “Blessed are
You, Lord God, King of the Universe.”
Yahweh is the King.
They will have nothing to say, they
will be speechless! The Darwinist will be
speechless! The gay and lesbian activist
will be speechless! The abortionist will be
speechless! The National Organization of
Women will be speechless! The American
Civil Liberties Union will be speechless!
They will be speechless! So will the liberal
theologians. They will be speechless. All
their big talk now? They will be speechless.
The rest of us will also be speechless, except
for three words: “Thank You, Jesus!”
Or in my case, two words: “Todai, Yeshua!”
“Then the king said to the servants,
‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw
him into the outer darkness; in that
place there will be weeping and
gnashing of teeth.” (Mt. 22:13)
Something being increasingly propagated
in the last 10-12 years is “Annihilationism.”
In England it is championed by
John Stott, the Anglican theocrat. “Hell
is not eternal and conscious, it is just an
annihilation.” There are saved Christians
– supposedly saved – teaching this. Well,
the term in Greek for the smoke of their
torment going up forever and ever (Rev.
14:11) is an interesting term: “anabaino
eis aion aion.” It’s simply the Greek way
of translating the Hebrew, “from age to
age.” The smoke of their torment went up,
“anabaino eis aion aion” It is the same
term used for the eternal high priesthood
of Jesus, the same term used for the eternal
glory of God, and the same term used for
our salvation. In other words, if hell is not
eternal and conscious, how can we be sure
Heaven is? It is the same term. John Stott
does not deal with that in his book.
There is More to Hell than
“Hell”
But look what it is saying...
…‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw
him into the outer darkness; in that
place there will be weeping and gnashing
of teeth.’ For many are called,
[but] few are chosen.” (Mt. 22:13-14)
What do I mean, “There is more to hell
than ‘hell’?” Well, it is not what I mean;
it is what the Bible says. There is more to
hell than “hell.”
It is not just the “Lake of Fire,” it is
not just the “outer darkness” where there
will be weeping and gnashing of teeth, it is
not just the “smoke and the torment” going
up forever and ever. There is more to hell
than that. This person actually got into the
wedding feast and saw it and saw the Lord.
Hell will not just be “hell”; it will be the
conscious absence from Heaven. They will
see what they could have had and should
have had. They will know what should
have been and what could have been. They
will know what those who repented and accepted
Jesus are going to have: everlasting
life. Somehow this guy got in! They are going
to know, consciously, what they missed
as well as what they have instead. There is
more to hell than “hell. God bless.
For many are
called, but few
are chosen.
(Mt. 22:14)
Samuel Adams, said:
A menorah was engraved in stone around
2,000-years ago and found in a synagogue recently
discovered by the Sea of Galilee and is
thought to be one of the earliest depictions of
a menorah.
Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by
Roman legions in 70 A.D.
JERUSALEM – Israeli archaeologists
have uncovered one of the earliest depictions
of a menorah, the seven-branched candelabra
that has come to symbolize Judaism, the Israel
Antiquities Authority said Friday.
The menorah was engraved in stone
around 2,000 years ago and found in a synagogue
recently discovered by the Sea of Galilee.
Pottery, coins and tools found at the site
indicate the synagogue dates to the period of
the second Jewish temple in Jerusalem, where
the actual menorah was kept, said archaeologist
Dina Avshalom-Gorni of the Israel Antiquities
Authority. The artist might have seen
the menorah during a pilgrimage and then
recreated it in the synagogue, she suggested.
A small number of depictions of the menorah
have surfaced from the same period, she said,
but this one was unique because it was inside
a synagogue and far from Jerusalem, illustrating
the link between Jews around Jerusalem
and in the Galilee to the north.
The menorah, depicted atop a pedestal with
a triangular base, is carved on a stone which
was placed in the synagogue’s central hall.
The temple in Jerusalem was destroyed
by Roman legions in 70 A.D. The Arch of Titus
in Rome, erected to mark the Roman victory,
depicts troops carrying the menorah from
Jerusalem to symbolize the defeat of the Jews.
The menorah became a Jewish symbol and is
featured today on Israel’s official emblem.
Most other depictions of the menorah were
made only after the temple’s destruction, and if
this finding is indeed earlier it could be closer
to the original, said Aren Maeir, an archaeology
professor at Bar-Ilan University in Israel.
“If you have a depiction of the menorah
from the time of the temple, chances are it is
more accurate and portrays the actual object
than portrayals from after the destruction of
the temple, when it was not existent,” he said.
The ancient prayer house was discovered
in the town of Migdal, usually identified as the
birthplace of the New Testament’s Mary Magdalene,
whose name is thought to be based on
the town’s.
