As a result, total assets are not reported by operating segment. 2. Pooled Budget The Trust has no pooled budget arrangements. 3. Operating Segments The Trust has only one operating segment, that of Healthcare. 1.37 Research and Development Research and development expenditure is charged against income in the year in which it is incurred, except in so far as development expenditure relates to a clearly defined project and the benefits of it can reasonably be regarded as assured. Expenditure so deferred is limited to the value of future benefits expected and is amortised through the Operating Cost Statement on a systematic basis over the period expected to benefit from the project. It should be revalued on the basis of current cost. The amortisation is calculated on the same basis as depreciation, on a quarterly basis. Annual Accounts
