in the UN event celebrated on World Water<br />

U.S. National Science Foundation<br />
- Geography and Spatial Sciences<br />
Program. The NSF funds an annual<br />
competition for research on the geographic<br />
distributions and interactions of human,<br />
physical, and biotic systems on the Earth’s<br />
surface. Projects on a variety of topics (U.S.<br />
and international) qualify for support if they<br />
offer promise of enhancing geographical<br />
knowledge, concepts, theories, methods, and<br />
their application to societal problems and<br />
concerns. Past projects include several in<br />
the world’s developing countries related to<br />
environmental disasters, waste management,<br />
marine spatial planning, wildlife<br />
conservation, and others. The deadline for<br />
regular proposals is 13 September 2012.<br />
October 2012<br />
Explorers Club - Eddie Bauer Grants<br />
2013. The Eddie Bauer grants support<br />
projects in the themes of climate change<br />
and the preservation and sustainable use of<br />
the Earth’s resources, consistent with the<br />
mission of the Explorers Club. The Eddie<br />
Bauer Youth Grant is awarded to one or more<br />
eligible students; the Eddie Bauer Expedition<br />
Grant funds one or more eligible expeditions.<br />
T<strong>here</strong> are no restrictions by nationality. Both<br />
categories of grants are for a maximum of<br />
US$25 thousand. The application deadline is<br />
15 October 2012.<br />
European Commission (EC) - Forest<br />
and Biodiversity Governance<br />
in Central Asia. The EC’s Regional<br />
Environmental Program for Central Asia<br />
announces grants through FLERMONECA<br />
for forest and biodiversity governance,<br />
including environmental monitoring. The<br />
components are: (i) forest law enforcement<br />
and governance (FLEG); (ii) ecological<br />
restoration and biodiversity conservation;<br />
and (iii) environmental monitoring. The<br />
program is open to nonprofit organizations<br />
and specialized agencies of EU member<br />
states, working with partner organizations<br />
in Central Asia. Grants will range from<br />
€4 million to €4.4 million. Reference<br />
EuropeAid/133112/L/ACT/Multi. The<br />
deadline for applications is 01 October 2012.<br />
International Iguana Foundation -<br />
Grants for Iguana Conservation. The<br />
International Iguana Foundation makes<br />
grants for iguana conservation. Priority is<br />
for projects related to survival of endangered<br />
iguanas and their habitats, that support<br />
established conservation programs, that<br />
have participation from the range countries,<br />
and that contribute matching funds. Grants<br />
are up to US$12 thousand. The application<br />
deadline is 12 October 2012.<br />
November 2012<br />
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo - Africa<br />
Seed Grants and Asia Seed Grants.<br />
Both programs make grants for wildlife<br />
conservation and research in their respective<br />
regions. The priority is for projects focusing<br />
on wildlife and habitat protection, humanwildlife<br />
conflict, sustainable environmental<br />
practices, capacity building, and conservation<br />
biology. T<strong>here</strong> are no application restrictions<br />
by nationality. In both programs, the seed<br />
grants range from US$1,000 to US$3,500.<br />
The deadline for pre-proposals is 05<br />
November 2012.<br />
Explorers Club - Grants for Student<br />
Exploration and Field Research 2013.<br />
The Explorers Club makes grants to students<br />
for international field projects, including<br />
projects focusing on environment and<br />
natural resources. The Youth Activity Fund<br />
is for high school students and university<br />
undergraduates. The Exploration Fund is<br />
for graduate and post-graduate students,<br />
including early-career post-doctoral students.<br />
Grants in both categories are typically from<br />
US$500 to US$1,500. The application<br />
deadline is 01 November 2012.<br />
