5.6. The Ukrainian language 5.6. Język ukraiński The Ukrainian language belongs to the eastern fraction of Slavic languages. The writing traditions of this language are rooted in the 11 th century (Old Ruthenian written texts in the Old Church Slavonic language with features of Ukrainian). It was shaped as a separate language in the 14 th century. Ukrainians use the Cyrillic alphabet with several additional letters. Język ukraiński należy do wschodniego odłamu języków słowiańskich. Jego tradycje piśmiennicze sięgają XI wieku (zabytki staroruskie pisane językiem staro‐cerkiewno‐słowiańskim z cechami ukraińskimi). Jako odrębny język ukształtował się w wieku XIV.
