There were 25,613 people registered <strong>on</strong> the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Intellectual<br />

Disability Database (NIDD) in Irel<strong>and</strong> in April 2007 (Kelly, Kelly <strong>and</strong> Craig,<br />

2007).<br />

Data <strong>of</strong> relevance from the Nati<strong>on</strong>al Intellectual Disability Database<br />

include:<br />

• Of the 25,613 people registered <strong>on</strong> the NIDD, 43.5% were women<br />

(11,164 individuals); <strong>of</strong> these, 10 per cent were aged between 15 -<br />

19 years, 25 per cent were aged between 20 – 34 years <strong>and</strong> 31 per<br />

cent were aged between 35 – 54 years.<br />

• 64 per cent <strong>of</strong> all children <strong>and</strong> adults with intellectual disability<br />

(16,366 individuals) live at home with parents, siblings, relatives<br />

or foster parents.
