Enduring Power <strong>of</strong> Attorney: A pers<strong>on</strong> with the requisite capacity may<br />

execute an enduring power <strong>of</strong> attorney (“EPA”), giving another pers<strong>on</strong> the<br />

power to act <strong>on</strong> their behalf in the event that they lose mental capacity.<br />

The decisi<strong>on</strong>s which may be made may relate to the pers<strong>on</strong>’s property or<br />

affairs <strong>and</strong>/or “pers<strong>on</strong>al care” decisi<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

Experiencing Crisis Pregnancy<br />

Learning Disability: including the presence <strong>of</strong> significant intellectual<br />

impairment; with deficits in social functi<strong>on</strong>ing or adaptive behaviour;<br />

which are present from childhood (Foundati<strong>on</strong> for People with Learning<br />

Disabilities, UK).<br />

Learning Difficulties: refers to individuals with intellectual impairments<br />

<strong>and</strong> used by the UK self-advocacy movement (Hollomotz, 2009).<br />

Intellectual Disability: involves a greater than average difficulty in<br />

learning. A pers<strong>on</strong> is c<strong>on</strong>sidered to have an intellectual disability when<br />

the following factors are present: intellectual functi<strong>on</strong>ing is significantly<br />

below average; there are difficulties with everyday life skills <strong>and</strong> the<br />

c<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong> is present from childhood (18 years or less) (definiti<strong>on</strong> used by<br />

Inclusi<strong>on</strong> Irel<strong>and</strong>).<br />

Developmental Disability: refers to lifel<strong>on</strong>g limitati<strong>on</strong>s in intellectual<br />

<strong>and</strong> adaptive functi<strong>on</strong>ing initially identified in people younger than 18<br />

years. [1]<br />

Mental Retardati<strong>on</strong>: Intellectual disability is a disability characterised<br />

by significant limitati<strong>on</strong>s both in intellectual functi<strong>on</strong>ing <strong>and</strong> in adaptive<br />

behaviour, which covers many everyday social <strong>and</strong> practical skills.<br />

This disability originates before the age <strong>of</strong> 18 (American Associati<strong>on</strong> <strong>on</strong><br />

Intellectual <strong>and</strong> Developmental Disabilities, AAIDD).<br />
