International Trade Training Courses March to June 2012 At London Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), 33 Queen Street, London EC4R 1AP Export Documentation Essentials Tuesday 20 March 9.00am – 4.45pm Trainer: Michael Strawson This one-day course examines the documents needed in export trade providing an understanding of what, why, where and when. As a basis it follows the UN/SITPRO guidance in documentary completion, explaining why each piece of information is needed and the possible consequences to both the exporter and importer if documents are wrong. Letters of Credit Wednesday 18 April 9.00am – 4.45pm Trainer: Stephen Townsley This course is an interactive course taking delegates through the procedures from receipt of an enquiry to presentation of documents. It deals with the problems of how to avoid unworkable credits, avoiding the necessity for amendments, and some basic errors. It looks at the new code of conduct, UCP600 and some of the areas where it differs from the previous code, UCP500. It examines basic documentary collection methods using Bills of Exchange. Incoterms® - 2010 Rules Wednesday 23 May (half day) 1.45pm – 5.00pm Trainer: Stephen Townsley Incoterms® are used by importers and exporters of goods the world over and are essential tools that help traders avoid misunderstandings by clarifying the costs, risks, and responsibilities of both buyers and sellers. Yet, in most cases they are wrongly used, leaving the seller open for big claims and losses. Do you really understand them, especially as they have changed and the new rules came into force 1 January 2011? This half-day course will cover: what are Incoterms®, why they are needed, what they cover, what is not covered, why the need for change, how to apply the new Incoterms®. Appointment and Management of Agents and Distributors Tuesday 19 June 9.00am – 4.45pm Trainer: Michael Strawson This course deals with the vital area of agency and distribution. It examines the differences, where each may be appropriate, EU legislation, finding, appointing and motivating your partners. It also highlights the pitfalls and potential costs of getting it wrong. Since 1997 he has run a training and consulting business drawing on his 40 plus years’ experience in international trade. He is JETS accredited and also accredited under the National Export Sales Certificate scheme. He is a Member of and trainer for the Institute of Export and an Associate of the Institute of Business Consulting. Stephen Townsley Stephen has worked in international trade (both exports and imports) for over 38 years thus gaining a wide range of practical experience in manufacturing exports, importing and freight forwarding. As a JETS accredited tutor, he is currently contracted to deliver international trade programmes for Birmingham, Coventry, Derby/Notts, North Staffordshire and Sheffield Chambers of Commerce and has worked with these Chambers for at least 15 years. He is responsible for developing and delivering a number of formal international trade qualifications – including NVQs, modern apprenticeship schemes and the UK’s first on-line Foundation Degree in International Trade.
