Help our newborn patients and
support our Baby Boutique!
Family Health Centers of San Diego’s prenatal program cares for
2,000 moms and newborn babies each year. Many of the patients
we serve struggle to purchase needed supplies and clothing for their
newborn babies. With funding help from the Chargers Ladies Club,
we started the Baby Boutique.
How does it work? The community provides donations of new and
gently used baby items for the boutique. Patients receive “Baby
Bucks” at their post natal visits, and then shop at the boutique for
items they need.
Jasmine was born August 18, 2010
weighing a healthy 7 pounds 2
ounces. Jasmine’s father works in
construction and his hours were cut
this year. Thankfully everyone is
welcome at Family Health Centers of
San Diego, regardless of income or
insurance status. It was our honor to
care for Jasmine and give her a
healthy start.
Two easy ways you can help
1 - We need volunteers to work at the Baby Boutique once a month.
Duties include organizing donations, creating gift packages, and
stocking shelves.
2 - We need donations from our wish list to stock our Boutique
The Campaign for Care
Help us Build the New City Heights Family Health Center
We are bursting at the seams! Since 2002, when
Family Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) started
providing healthcare services in City Heights, we have
seen more than 500% growth in patient care. FHCSD
recently received federal stimulus grant funds paving
the way for us to expand and build a new City Heights
Family Health Center.
The Campaign for Care is to close the $1.7 million
funding gap that stimulus funds could not provide and
are essential to complete this project. There are many
ways to support! Please join us in our efforts to build
a healthy community in City Heights. For giving
opportunities, please contact Edith Glassey, Director
of Philanthropy at edithg@fhcsd.org or 619-906-4508.
The new clinic will be located at 5454 El Cajon
Boulevard and will replace the current location at 5379
El Cajon Blvd. and is slated to open in 2012. It will
feature an adult clinic, a pediatric clinic, a women’s
clinic, a dental clinic, radiology, and pharmacy. All of
these services are vital to improving the access and
quality of healthcare for the residents of City Heights
and the 16 neighborhoods surrounding the clinic.
Electronic Dental Records
Roll Out A Success!
In January, Family Health Centers of San Diego
(FHCSD) completed the roll out of our new Electronic
Dental Records system. The sophisticated system was
developed in house under the leadership of FHCSD CIO
Andres Gutierrez, Dental Director Ibrahim Sawaya, DDS
and Senior Software Architect Das Vakamudi.
The new system ensures every part of the patient’s dental
treatment and care plan are recorded electronically. It
also gives our three dental clinics new tools to track
quality measures and improve care. Equally impressive,
FHCSD’s dental staff implemented the new system
without a drop in productivity! Congratulations to
FHCSD’s IT and Dental teams for this great success!
Taking care of one’s mental and dental health are
critical to an individual's well-being and our patients
appreciate their access to these services through
Family Health Centers of San Diego.
CECO is a non-profit, employee-managed
A Legacy of Caring
We welcome you to the newest
section of our newsletter, A
Legacy of Caring. In this
section we will be sharing
ideas and information on how
to make your “gift of a lifetime” to charitable
organizations that make a tremendous impact on
improving and saving lives in our community –
organizations such as Family Health Centers of San
Diego.
What Will You Leave Behind?
Everyone leaves a mark on humanity. Our marks are
made by the impression of our lives on others. A person
is remembered for his or her character, kindness,
generosity, and values.
When we leave positive impressions behind, we enhance
the lives of our friends and loved ones. We give them
footprints to follow. Thoughtful estate planning is one
means we have to make a mark in the sand, to help
others recall our values.
An estate gift makes a positive statement. When you
include a charitable organization, such as Family Health
Centers of San Diego in the final disposition of your
estate, you declare to your family and friends that you
believe in and care about our mission and our work.
Your parting gift becomes a clear declaration of your
values.
An estate gift provides needed funding. Estate gifts are
especially valuable, not only because they tend to be
larger than annual gifts, but because they often fund
needed programs and help to establish beneficial
services not otherwise possible.
An estate gift encourages imitation. There’s something
about a well-planned estate gift that influences others to
“go and do likewise.” Your gift may be the motivation to
unlock resources from others.
Thank you for considering Family Health Centers of San
Diego as you plan your gift of legacy. If you have
questions, please contact Edith Glassey, Director of
Philanthropy, at edithg@fhcsd.org or (619) 906-4508.
Please note that all information contained in this section of our newsletter is presented as an educational service.
ICARE
An Innovative Approach
The County of San Diego recently selected Family
Health Centers of San Diego (FHCSD) and Community
Research Foundation (CRF) to lead an innovative pilot
project that dramatically changes the way we provide
physical and mental healthcare services to individuals
with serious mental illness.
For many years, mental health and primary care services
were delivered in “silos”. Patients had to go to two
separate, non-collaborating providers to get services. As
a result, patients did not get all the care they needed and
providers never had complete information about the
patient’s health.
Through our new Integrated Care Resources (ICARE)
Project, FHCSD will establish patient-centered medical
homes for at least 300 individuals with serious mental
illness, providing for both their physical health and
mental health care needs. CRF will provide the mental
health services for another 300 patients and coordinate
their access to physical health care at FHCSD.
