The financial year 2006-07 has ended on a positive note, financially and operationally.
Strong demand from steel industry worldwide has been an important factor for the
encouraging results. However, optimum use of key resources like chrome ore and
electricity has been our objective, to keep costs under control. We need to achieve
longterm viability, as market prices and demand do and will fluctuate. Further
integration to coal mining and expansion of electricity generation is now pursued
expeditiously for adequate fundamental strength.

Dear Colleagues,
International market of ferro chrome gave us some anxiety in the last 2/3 months, culminating in a sharp
drop in bench mark price. Fortunately, the slide is now arrested, we are starting to see increasing demand
and next few months promise to be better. The real task today, however, is to manage inputs costs which is
touching unprecedented high levels. Discipline in inventory, finance and marketing will give some relief, till
we arrange cheaper source of major inputs like thermal coal.
In the recently concluded A&C exercise, we have streamlined many HR practices, most of which are in
acknowledgement of feedback through EES. Employee engagement, application and accountability is
important when we are growing fast today; with major projects in Choudwar, Angul and overseas.
Managing growth successfully needs the heart and soul of every manager and I am sure we will live upto
the expectation of all our stakeholders.

It is a matter of pride for our company that Mr Subhrakant
Panda, Managing Director has been awarded the Odisha Icon
2011, Best Jury Award under Family Business category. Mr
Sanjeev Das, VP(CA) received the award on behalf of Mr.

Resources Development inaugurated the Livestock Aid Center,

CELEBRATIONS
Holi was celebrated on 20.3.2011 by the employees and their
family members with exchange of colors and best wishes. On
this occasion, IMFA Club served special "Pana" to members
and their families.
Republic Day was celebrated on 26.01.2011 with flag
hoisting and sweets distributions at actory premises,
educational institutions & other office premises.
New year 2011 was celebrated with a get-together in
front of Administrative Building. The employees greeted each
other and exchanged New year wish.

INNOVATIONS & RENOVATIONS
Modification of Snatch box of EOT Crane of Pl-01
The old Snatch box (12Ton capacity) has been replaced with a
new one where the pulleys are mounted on anti friction
bearings with provision for easy lubrication. This has increased
the longevity and also has reduced the risk factor during
operation. The new snatch box manufacturing drawing has
been developed in-house.
Laser Sensor installed in Pl-01 Electrode Hoists
The ultrasonic sensors to measure Pl-01 Electrode hoisting
have been replaced with laser sensors. It has resulted in
accurate measurement even when the uneven target place is
fully covered with dust.
CLUB TIME
Cultural night at IMFA Club
The Ladies Club organized a drama, ‘Aji Sandhyara Satya’ on
02.02.2011 under the able guidance of Mrs Pranati Senapati.
The cultural night ended with a dinner for the members and
their families. Mr A C Swain, Secretary was the coordinator.

Raja, the unique festival of Odisha was also celebrated by IMFA
Club,Therubali. In true Odiya fervor. A Dance and Bhajana
program on 16.06.2011 staged by the Children of RAWA
Academy, Bhubaneswar. Traditional rope swings were
decorated with flowers and were provided to play in the
evening. Typical Odiya delicacies were enjoyed by the evening
crowd.

CELEBRATIONS
Republic Day was celebrated on 26.01.2011 with flag
hoisting and sweets distributions at factory premises,
educational institutions & other office premises.
Birth Day of Vice Chairman, IMFA, Mr. Baijayant Panda was
celebrated with a mass prayer and a lunch on 12.01.2011 for
220 inmates of Servant Society of India, Choudwar.
40th National Safety Week was celebrated both
at Unit-I & Unit-II from 04.03.2011 to 10.03.2011. Employees &
children of colonies went on Pravat Pheri in both the colonies
with Safety placards & slogans to spread awareness on safety.
The function was inaugurated with Safety flag hoisting by Mr B
D Sahoo,EVP(O). Safety oath ceremony was participated by
employees & students in large numbers. On this occasion, a
competition on Safety exhibition was organized for ITC
students. The in-house safety exhibition was inaugurated by
Mr B D Sahoo and was kept open for seven days for Guests
and the visitors. Competitions on safety slogans, essays &
posters were organized for employees and their family
members. Sit and draw & safety debate competitions were
organized for local school students in Sub-Junior, Junior &
Senior Categories. Training programs on OHSAS awareness
among contract labour, Health awareness, among family
members, Trade test among tappers, Boiler Operators,
Electrician, Drivers Crane Operator, LPG safety among family
members, Electrical Safety, Fire fighting , emergency Mock drill
competition, environment safety were organized.

Summer Festival was held from 29.04.11 to 01.05.11
with an opera rally and Meena Bazaar. Noted cine and
television artists Mr Bhagaban Behera and Miss Chuni
inaugurated the function as Chief Guests & Guest of Honor
respectively. Kapileswar Natya Parisida, Manguli, Basanti Yuva
Sansad, Chainapal & Kala Mancha, Paradeep participated in the
opera competition. Basanti Yuva Sansad, Chainapal & Kala
Mancha, Paradeep bagged the 1 st & 2 nd spots. Mr S K Lenka of
Personnel Dept. emerged as best Actor in the opera staged by
Kapilswar Natya Parisada, Manguli. Winners of Meena Bazaar

the Chief Guest on the Closing Day function of Safety Week. A
safety drama was played by the employees. Mr Mohanty
distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions.
Utkal Diwas was celebrated at IMFA Staff Club premises
on 01.04.2011 which was inaugurated by Dr Kunjabihari Jena,
the Principal, Choudwar College. The whole program was
successfully coordinated by Mr P K Samal, Secretary, Staff Club.
The colony children staged a patriotic drama.

01.05.2011 with debate & quiz competitions for employees
and their children. Topic of debate was “Silpa Abhibhrudhire
Shramikara Bhumika”. Mr Pravat Ranjan Biswal, Hon'ble
MLA, Choudwar-Cuttack was the Chief Guest in the function
organized on this occasion. Mr B D Sahoo delivered the
welcome address. Winners of the various competitions

World Environment day was celebrated on 05.06.2011.
The day began with Pravat pheri by the colony children
carrying placards with environment messages. The banners
were displayed at key locations with this year's UNEP (United
Nations Environmental Program) message “Forests : Nature at
your service”. After the environmental oath taking ceremony,
Mr. B. D. Sahoo led a plantation program. On this occasion,
competitions on Sit & draw poster, quiz for students and
environmental awareness training & a quiz program were
organized for contract workers. Environment awareness
training & a quiz program were organized for colony ladies at
recreation club colony-II. Dr. J. K. Panigrahi, Environmentalist &
Secretary, Orissa Environmental Society, Bhubaneswar
imparted the environmental awareness training to the colony
ladies. Debate competition was organized for company

TOURNAMENT
The 6 th Kunja Bihari Memorial Volleyball Tournament was
conducted on 8th. & 9th. Jan.2011. Total six teams participated
in the tournament. Kalaprakasini, Choudwar emerged as
champion & Nanaker, Jagatpur was the runners up. MLA Mr.
Prabhat Ranjan Biswal inaugurated the function. In the closing

Saraswati Pooja or the Basanta Panchami, was
celebrated by Ladies Club of Colony No.1 on 08.02.2011 with
a colorful cultural program of record dance, songs & comedy
drama “ Tora Dine ku Mora Dine”.

New Year 2011 celebration at SMC was highlighted by a

13 th Mines Environment & Conservation
Week was observed at SMC & MMC from 24 th to 31 st
January, 2011. The school children along with their Teachers
visited SMC & MMC in order to have knowledge about the

Nuasahi Chromite Mines of IMFA Group participated in

inspection team inspected NCM on 29th January, 2011. A
meeting was organized in the afternoon. To create awareness
about the clean environment and conservation of minerals

Republic Day was celebrated on 26th January, 2011. The
celebrations included flag hoisting at our office premises and
educational institutions with pravat pheri by students and
sweets distribution.
Mahasivaratri was celebrated at Nilakantheswar Temple
on 02-03-2011. Large number of devotees from the locality
visited the temple and lighted the holy lamp in the evening. At
midnight 'Mahadeep' was lifted for darshan of devotees.
Saraswati Pooja was celebrated on 8th Feb'2011 at
Nuasahi Chromite Mines Camp Premises as well as at BVN
English Medium School, Bidyadharpur.
Holi the Festval of Colours was celebrated on 20.03.2011. All
the colony inmates including employees roamed around the
Colony premises to greet each other with Phagu and sweets.

Maha Vishuva Sankranti or the Oriya New Year on
14 th April' 2011. In the evening all colony inmates gathered at
the Nilakantheswar temple and enjoyed the traditional Oriya
Drink “PANA” and a Prasad Sevan.

traditional festival in this tribal belt of Boula. Pooja was offered
at Nilakantheswar Temple on 15 th , June'2011.
World Enviornment Day was celebrated on 5 th June,
2011, with a view to promote awareness. Under the guidance

INTER UNIT VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
An Inter Unit flood light Volleyball tournament was organized
on 2 nd March, 2011 with teams from CHQ, Choudwar,
Therubali, ORTEL & Mines Division. Mr. V K Agrawal
inaugurated the tournament. Mining Division team under the
captaincy of Mr. Madhab Nayak won the championship by
beating Choudwar team in the finals. Mr. V. K. Agrawal

INNOVATION & RENOVATION
Chute System installed at -176RL
The vertical height required to install Chute is 4.5 mt at any
mines. To make the Chute System more efficient, suitable
modification has been done. This has enabled us achieve the
required capacity (200MT) of bin which was not possible with
previous Chute system. The entire installation was possible due
to untiring efforts from Mr. Brundaban Bal, Mining Mate & Mr.
Muralidhar Sahoo, Mechanic.

Q. How do you feel after being awarded most
prestigious Odisha Sahitya Academy Puraskar for
your novel 'Nirvan' for the year 2007?
Ans:
I am very happy that my sincere involvement and
commitment to literature has been recognized and
equally proud that being an employee of corporate
sector like imfa got this award which is a rare
phenomena in the literary world.
Q. When did you start writing and how many books
you have authored?
Ans:
I was inclined to literature from my childhood. My first
story book "Swornaprabha" was published when I
was 25 years old. Till date total 30 books I have
written including translations.
Q. What is the subject matter of your novel "Nirvan"
and how it is popular among the readers?
Ans:
It is a biographical novel,based on the Lord Buddha's
life,his struggle and determination for enlightenment,
compassion for all living beings and teachings and
philosophy,above all my creative imaginations. This
novel has seen its fourth edition till date from which
you can know its popularity.
Q. How do you get time to write as you are busy in
your profession?
Ans:
I write in the night from 10 PM to 1 PM for which I
am a late riser .
Q. What is your message to the younger generation
particularly to the young employees?
Ans:
On the alibi of busyness or paucity of time,do not
destroy your other dimension of potentiality which is
waiting for manifestation inside you. Apart from what
profession or job you have,there is also other
possibilities of becoming a poet, a writer, a painter, a
singer, a actor or social worker, philanthropist,
spiritualist and many other outside your area of
operation, because "each man is potentially divine".

A Health Camp was conducted at Kaliapni on 03.03.2011.
Dr. Chaitan Marandi, Dr. D. Senapati, Dr. B. Arrokh & our
paramedical staff provided free treatment & medicine to the
patients. Mrs. Bhagabati Mohanta, Zilla Parishd Member and Mr.
Baisnav Pradhan, Sarpanch, Kaliapani were present at the camp.

World Environment Day, was celebrated with a
plantation drive in village Jamunali in Angul district under which
various types of nutritional saplings were planted and

Construction Works - Public toilets were
constructed at Biribadi, Kumbarsahi, R B Pujariguda., Mariguda
and Pujariguda. Rest shed at Khedapada Bus stop has been
completed. Borewell with concrete platform installed at
villages Pujariguda and Gobarpali.
Donations & Supports - Sankritan dresses were
donated at Champikota, Pujariguda and Dunduli Villages. Food
materials in large volumes were donated to Adruta Orphan
centre,Rayagada. Financial assistance was provided to Maa
Majhigouri Self Help Group, Sankulipadar to visit Similiguda
poultry farm to get exposure and support was provided to
Self Help Groups Elgalpadu,Pujariguda and sankulpadar to avail
Bank loan.

Distribution of Mosquito nets
All local Schools & Clubs have been provided with First aid
Medicine, study materials, Surgical items, Furniture & Fixture,
Sports accessories and uniforms.
Drinking water provision has been looked after with
installation of Tube wells and renovation of dug well and water
tank and laying of water pipelines at Kankadapal, Ashokjhar,
Sourika High School, Chingudipal and Bengadia village.
Construction works: A club room has been
constructed at Munda Sahi, Jajbhairav for the benefit of the
local residents and a library has been constructed at Kamudi
Thakurani Sahi, Kalinga Chhak, Choudwar.

Assistance - Blankets were donated to poor people at
Ransol, Kaliapani, Kaansa, Chingudipal, Kankadapal, Kuhika,
Pimpudia & Baulapal villages. Financial Assistance was provided
to encourage Cultural actvity at Kaliapani village on the eve of
'Chaitra Purnima'.
Construction Works like Village Mandap at Patra Sahi,
Kaduabandi and a Community Hall at Chatakiposi have been
completed and digging of bore-well, renovation of water tank,
construction of kitchen and repairing of drainage system at
Ashram School, Chingudipal, Govt. High School, Chandikhole.
NCM ZONE
Under Welfare Activity, Bee Cultivation (Apiculture)
program is in progress since last year. Many Beehive Boxes
(Apiaries) with Bee colonies have been donated to several
Adivasi Self Help Groups and also training programs were
imparted by an Apiarist for honey cultivation & marketing.
Under development program, a Community Hall has
been constructed at Bidyadharpur. Another community Hall
also has been constructed at Ragudisahi village and dedicated
to the Public by local Hon'ble MLA, Mr. Bhagirathi Sethy.
Dhanurjaypur UGME School has been provided with a
boundary wall for the safety of the students.

Under Health & Immunization an Awareness-cum-
Malaria- Detection camp was organized at Mayurnachha
Primary School on 18.02.2011. Nearly 200 malaria patients
availed free treatment and medicine under the supervision of
Dr. L. P. Mohanty, DGM(Medical), IMFA and Dr. S. Biswal, Salania
CHC, Maleria Control Dept.. Medicated Mosquito nets were
donated to villagers at Mayurnachha, Palabani, Saramindi,
Malipasi & Raighati.
A Rural Health Camp was organized at Madhubana High
School on 22.01.2011. 160 patients from Haradbadi,
Sankatapalia, Benapatia, Baghuasahi villages availed free
treatment & free medicines. Dr. L. P. Mohanty, DGM(Medical)
IMFA & Dr. Ramesh Chandra Behera of Hadgarh PHC.
conducted the camp.
Under Drinking Water & Sanitation, tube wells and
ponds have been repaired & renovated at Bangore,
Dhanurjaypur , K Balipal and Gahaldahi villages. Also provision
of supply of drinking water through pipe line from a deep
bore-well to Nuasahi village has been completed.
It is time to harvest rain water.
