aspects of hygienic and public services
(drainage, irrigation, sewage treatment and
utilization), the design, construction and operation
of hydraulic engineering structures and
also environmental engineering.
• Graduates from the Branch of Geoinformatical
Engineering can spatially locate and map natural
and artificial configurations, set out designed
engineering structures, determine deformations
of erected constructions, develop
control point networks, perform astronomical
and gravitational measurements and determine
the Earth‘s geodynamical processes. Graduates
in surveying engineering can design and manage
economic solutions for geodesic problems
at a high engineering level. They can also develop
relevant technologies and perform significant
scientific research.
Erasmus Mundus Master Course: EURO-Aquae
EURO-Aquae: Euro Hydro Informatics and Water
Management. The Master Course is supported by
the European Commission Directorate General for
Education and Culture through the actions 1&2
of the Erasmus Mundus framework. The partner
universities issue the M.Sc. (Master of Science)
academic degree according to the local situation.
The degree is recognized by all participating countries.
The consortium tries to establish a joint
european degree named “Master of Science in
Hydro-Informatics & Water Management”.
Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences
General Information
The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences was
established in 1998 in the framework of a restructuring
project of BME. On one hand the University
returned to its historical traditions: as one of the
educational tasks of the former József Nádor University
of Technical and Economic Studies was to
provide high quality training for future economists.
On the other hand for meeting the rapidly
changing requirements of contemporary economy
the scope of training at the University has been
strengthened fundamentally by the introduction
programs in Engineering Management as well as
in Business Management.
The total number of students of different graduate,
postgraduate and distance learning forms of
training launched by the Faculty is about 5000. Research
is conducted in 3 doctorate (Ph.D.) schools.
Due to the multidisciplinary nature of the University,
science and engineering subjects for future
economists are taught by the staff of different engineering
faculties as well as the subjects of the Faculty
of Economic and Social Sciences’ are present in
the educational programs of all other faculties.
Parallel to the traditional five-year university
training, in 2006 according to the Bologna model,
the two-cycle system (for B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees)
was introduced at the Faculty. The final
year of graduation for students of the traditional
five-year training is scheduled for 2010. The language
of the above programs is Hungarian but
both full time international and exchange students
of the University have the possibility to study
different subjects in business and economics in
English. Hungarian and Central European Studies,
Hungarian as a foreign language courses are also
offered.
Degree programs in English will start in 2007/
2008 academic year.
B.Sc. program in Business and Management
will start in 2008/2009 academic year.
From 2008 a full-time B.Sc. program in Business
and Management in English is to be introduced.

and Informatics
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering founded in
1949 has been renowned for excellence in research
and education throughout the years of
changes in the scope of engineering. Over this
period, the Faculty has earned a wide-spread international
reputation for its high academic standards
and scientific achievements. Spearheading
the movement to establish a modern education
system, it has offered a comprehensive English
