18 Mutuality Principle The company calculates its income in accordance with the mutuality principle which excludes from income, any amounts of subscriptions and contributions from members, and payments received from members for particular services provided by the club or association, eg. poker machines, bar and dining room service in the case of social clubs. The Commissioner of Taxation accepts this method of calculating income as appropriate for recognised clubs and associations. Following the Full Federal Court decision in Coleambally Irrigation Mutual Co-operative Limited v FCT [2004] FCAFC 250, Tax Laws Amendment (2005 Measures No.6) Bill 2005 was tabled in Parliament on 7 December 2005 to amend the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 to restore the long standing benefits of the mutuality principle to those non-profit organisations affected by the Coleambally decision. ANNUAL REPORT 2011 sub-Branch Reports sub-Branch President’s Report Keeping up with the year 2010–2011 has again proven to be a hard task, however with a committed team the sub-Branch have overcome all that was required of them. I would like to offer my thanks to the hard working team of Secretary Kevin Johnston, Treasurer Jim Bostock, Vice President’s Gary Ohlson and Harry Taylor who have again this year made my task as President an enjoyable one. Thank you to the Pension Officers Gerrard Smith, Tom Baena and Rick Palenzuela along with Welfare Officers Keith Winsbury, Frank Eastwell and John Rothery for their efforts in attending funerals of departed members, visits to members in hospital and at home or at convalescent/nursing homes. Thank you also to the Committee Bruce Scott, Michael Reid, Bob Andriske, Yvonne Timperley, Ross Weaver and David Blackman. Thank you to Assistant Secretary Margaret Webb and our F.W.M.D.C Delegates. Thank you to the Women’s Auxiliary for their work and support for the sub-Branch. This year we have the Alf Ross Memorial Scholarship in motion and the first two students have been awarded assistance for their studies and were presented with a certificate and cheque by Ken Ross son of Alf Ross and myself. We also have the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme and Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge with two students being chosen in each program for participation this year. To the Board of Directors, General Manager Alan Middleton, Secretary Denise Ferguson, Relieving Secretary Amanda Check, Management and staff – your continued support is always appreciated. Finally to the most important people, you the members, your continued support in attending your monthly meetings helps in keeping our sub-Branch running strong. LEST WE FORGET Bill Norris OAM President sub-Branch Secretary’s Report It is again my privilege to submit this report, at the time of writing we have a total 426 Members comprising of 400 Ordinary Members, 8 Life Members, 9 Life subscribers, 5 Honorary Members and 4 Associate Members. Our Membership has dropped partially again this year, so it is up to us the members to encourage friends and family, who are eligible, to join the League. Again this year we have had a busy time but very enjoyable one. Our ANZAC Day Dawn Service continues to draw a larger attendance each year, as does our Remembrance Sunday Service and our Victory in the Pacific Service. I would like to thank President Bill Norris, Assistant secretary Margaret Webb, Treasurer Jim Bostock, Vice Presidents Gary Ohlson and Harry Taylor and the Committee for their assistance through the year. The monthly meetings have been well attended this year averaging high eighties to low nineties and you the members have proposed several very good suggestions which have and will be attended to and brought back to you for adoption. Well done and don’t be afraid to suggest your thoughts for deliberations at the meeting and not after the meeting. There seems to be plenty of ideas coming from the bottom of a schooner glass later on. At the July meeting Ted Gabb, Bruce Scott and Cec Creswick received their certificate for 50 years continuous membership of the League. Members please be advised that such continuous service does not have to be at City of Blacktown RSL alone. It is continuous membership of the League. If you think you may qualify for such an award please contact me. The Children’s Christmas party is going well with Santa (Harry Taylor) being the man of the day, there has been a few children not very happy with girls aged 10 years receiving cars. I have spoken with the firm which we order the presents from and it will not happen again. I wish to thank our hard working Women’s Auxiliary for all their assistance they have given us again this year. Also the Board of Directors, General Manager Alan Middleton, Secretary Denise Ferguson, Relieving Secretary Amanda Check and all the staff who have assisted us during the year. We receive a lot of members telling us that they had not received any visitors whilst in hospital or at home, unfortunately in these circumstances we have not be informed of members being hospitalised or receiving home care, therefore if you know any member or ex Service personal who has been hospitalised or who could benefit from a visit or assistance please let me know and I will pass it on to the committee. Finally thank you to you the members for your attendance again this year. Keep it up. LEST WE FORGET Kevin Johnston Honorary Secretary BLACKTOWN RSL CLUB LIMITED - where friends love to meet 33
