Illinois Principal’s Association In March, Lauren Nagle was honored by the Illinois Principals’ Association at the third annual student recognition breakfast. Lauren received this honor due to her ability to demonstrate responsibility, commitment to school, and leadership. Congratulations, Lauren. HERSEY’S ROBOTS STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN BATTLEBOTS COMPETITION Robot Rumble competition in it’s 4th year, which was held at Wheeling High School. A total of 30 robots compeated, increasing every year. Hersey competed and did an excellent job and performed with six robots. Congratulations to these well deserving students. 14

ACTIVITIES Science Olympiad Joey Kollins Nasir Jamali Dan Hansen Mark Baczanski Congratulations to the Hersey Science Olympiad team for taking the overall 2nd place trophy at this years Regional Competition. This qualifies the team for the State Tournament to be held at University of Illinois on April 20th. The students that will be representing the team are: Aleeta Biju, Tiffany Chung, Allie Jager, Joe Koo, Steven Landeweer, Maggie Marusek, Joe McGovern, Dan McGready, Mohamed Mekki, Valmik Patel, Jacob Pepe, Alexandea Petrusan, Morgan Treppa, Tori Valadez, Eric Wade, and Yvonne Wojciechowski. Scholastic Bowl All-Stars Hersey proudly recognizes the contributions of two members of the Varsity Scholastic Bowl Team: Steve Landeweer and Phil Tubergen. Each was selected as an “MSL All-Star” for demonstrating extensive knowledge of topics ranging from history and geography to chemistry and biology. Together, they propelled their team to a 23 - 9 record and an MSL East Division title. Congratulations to Steve and Phil! Team members: Mary Casagrande Conor Cimo Steve Landeweer Vivek Shah Luke Tremont Phil Tubergen Microsoft Technology Associate Network fundamentals exam that was taken at Harper College. This exam was provided for free to students who took the first semester Network Essentials class (our Cisco Networking Basics). We will be preparing for the CompTIA exams in May. Please congratulate them. A total of 12 students from the District passed the exams. MVA-Most Valuable Attitude ...Student Shaniah Duff was recognized as an election judge by doing an excellent job on election day. She was well prepared by studying the Election Manual and was a great help to her fellow judges. Kaitlyn Roscoe was commended for her kindness to some special education students who went to the circus and had some concerns. Kaitlyn reassured them and helped them to have an enjoyable day. Polar Plunge - MVA Congratulations to the following girls who raised over $2,000 for Special Olympics by participating in the “Polar Plunge” in March at Twin Lakes in Palatine. These water polo athletes were “Freezin’ for a Reason!” Shannon Cunningham Natalie Curtis Kelly Johnson Katie Lutz Elizabeth Niersbach Rachel Prostko Patty Rodrian Stephanie Surkin Karolina Szymaszek Dynamite Dancers The Hersey Dynamite Dancers are students from our Orchesis program who work with some of our CLS students to perform at a concert in May.
