CLASS OF 1963 REVS UP FOR 50 th Reunion

“50 years!?! Are you kidding me!?!” That was pretty much my
reaction when I learned that our high school class of 1963 was
going to be celebrating our 50 th reunion this year. So I did the math
thing - you know: 2013 minus 1963 = 50. Dang! But still, I thought
that just wasn’t right. Fifty year reunions are for old people! Then
someone reminded me that a few of us have grandchildren in college
so we pretty much qualify as old people.
Actually, I am pretty pumped for our upcoming reunion which
will be held on Friday, October 25, and Saturday, October 26, 2013.
The primary reason for my enthusiasm is that our reunion committee
has been working really hard to make this the best 50 th reunion that
Marian has ever hosted. Okay, we know there has only been one other
- just sayin’. Our first priority has been to try to contact every single
classmate to be sure that they know when and where the reunion
will be held. We are determined to make this a casual, fun time for
old friends to renew acquaintances and to share remembrances of
our high school days. We might even find the time to share an adult
beverage or two. As of today, we have contacted 130 of our 187
classmates and we intend to keep working until we contact them all.
Another reason that we are so excited about this gathering is
because our class has been participating in an “e-mail reunion”
for the past five years. We currently have a total of 115 classmates
hooked up in this group. Most have shared a “bio” of their lives
since graduation. The stories have been incredible. Our classmates
have stepped foot in every country in the world, and have shared
many different experiences that have made us laugh and cry. We
have learned so many things about our classmates that we never
believed possible, and some we have thought “That doesn’t surprise
me.” This forum has even brought together some who have lived
only a few miles from each other without knowing it.
Our plans for the weekend include a very casual get-together on
Friday evening, October 25. It happens to be on a weekend that
does not include a home football game at MCHS because we didn’t
want to create any distractions that would keep us from eating,
drinking, and conversing. It will take place in the corridor outside
the “old gym” (how appropriate) which is where we spent all our
time after school “back in the day.” The food will be provided by
(who else?) Aurelio’s of Homewood. There will be an open bar and
tours of the school will be available for those so inclined. Trust me,
there is a lot more there now to see.
Saturday festivities begin with Mass at MCHS followed by our
reunion dinner at Idlewild Country Club. We plan on a great evening
of fun, filled with surprises. There are even rumors that some lucky
attendee may drive home in a brand new car. (Editor’s note: You can’t
believe everything you hear.) Of course, you would have to be in
attendance to win. But, enough... can’t ruin all the surprises.
If any of our classmates are out there reading this, please plan
to attend our reunion in October. We had a wonderful four years
together, and it would be great to renew friendships and laugh about
those innocent times. I know you will not be disappointed and if,
for whatever reason, you will not be able to attend but would like to
