Population <strong>and</strong> Racial Origin<br />
The total population of Bruce (bounty, as recorded by the 1941 Census, is<br />
41,680 persons, 20,146 of these being on farms. The population of the urban<br />
areas totals 16,623 leaving 4,911 persons as the rural non-farm population.<br />
The trend in population is shown in Figure 3. It is apparent that,, since 1881,<br />
t,here has been a steady decrease in population. Evidently the shift in population<br />
has been away from the County altogether, since neither the rural nor<br />
urban areas show a marked increase in population during the period of 1881<br />
to 1941.<br />
Alt,hough the population is dominantly of British origin, many came originally<br />
from other countries. Table 1 presents figures from the 1941 Census<br />
indicating the origin of the population.<br />
