ANALYTICAL DATA
Chemical and physical analyses of surface ‘soils and of some soil profiles
are presented in Tables 22 and, 23 respectively. The chemical, analyses of surface
soils have some value as indications of the c0mparativ.e levels of available,
plant; nutrients. The physical analyses indicate the relative amounts of sand,
silt and clay in the samples analysed. The chemical and physical analyses of
the soil profiles provide dat>a useful in t!he study of soil formation.

Sampling ,..
The samples for analysis were taken after the County w+s surveyed and
mapped. The number of samples of surface soil from ea’ch soil type ta~ken was
determined 1,argely by the.:ext,en& and importance of t&he particular type. In
order t,o elimi,nate as far as possible variations due to cultjura and management
pract#ic.es the samples of’ surface soil were taken from old .pastures where fertilizer
appl,i&ions had not been made recently. The profile samples were
taken from undist’urbed locations in woodlots.
