Application for
Development Fund Account

1. The Development Fund
The Development Fund was established in 1977, and is a
flexible at-call account, paying a competitive interest rate,
with no entry, exit, transaction or account keeping fees,
nor any government charges. Funds are invested directly
in a diversified portfolio of cash and fixed interest
investments in UCA Cash Portfolio as well as in loans to
Uniting Church bodies.
The Fund is a unique opportunity for investors to assist
the philanthropic work of the Church while receiving a
competitive return. Net interest is paid to investors after
deducting operating costs and making a grant to the
UCA Synod of Victoria and Tasmania. It is also possible
for investors to increase their contribution by directing
all or part of their interest to a particular congregation
or charitable activity conducted by the church.
Privacy
UCA Funds Management respects the privacy of all
individuals and we comply with privacy legislation.
Investors will receive a quarterly newsletter in addition
to information regarding their account.
2. How it Works
Start with a minimum investment of $100.
• Your money is at call.
• Lodge additional investments at anytime by cheque,
BPay, electronic transfer or direct debit.
• Regular investment option.
• Withdrawals by cheque or Electronic Funds Transfer
(EFT) processed the same day (if received by 11.00am).
• Telephone withdrawals are available.
• Retain a minimum balance of $100.
3. What About Interest?
• Competitive interest rate.
• Calculated daily.
• Paid twice yearly.
• You also have an opportunity to donate your interest
(or part of your interest) to:
– The UnitingCare SHARE Community Appeal.
– Your congregation.
– UnitingCare agencies.
4. Is My Money Safe?
5. What About Fees?
• NO transaction fees.
• NO account keeping fees.
6. Take Notice
• NO cash transactions are allowed.
• NO cheques or EFT’s to third parties.
• Statements issued twice yearly and available on request.
7. Child Accounts
A Development Fund can also be an effective way to save
for your child’s future expenses. It is also a useful way
for older family members to engender a sense of saving
amongst younger members of the family as well. You may
wish to consider opening an account in the name of a
grandchild, a niece, a nephew or a family friend. If so, there
are two options you need to consider if you intend opening
a Development Fund account for a child.
Please note, both options require ID verification –
please see Identification Requirements on page 4.
Option 1 – In Trust For
• You can set up an ‘In Trust For’ account for the purpose
of investing funds for a child.
• The account is opened in the name of the investor
(parent or guardian) and the child’s name is placed
‘In Trust For’.
• Withdrawals from ‘In Trust For’ accounts are made
payable to the investor, not the person the money
is in trust for.
• The investor must include their own Tax File
Number, and the investor is the registered signatory
on the account.
• Parent(s)/guardian(s), grandparent(s) or a relative can
open an ‘In Trust For’ account on behalf of a child.
Option 2 – Child Accounts
• You can open a Development Fund account in the
name of the child.
• Withdrawals are made payable to the child. If the child
is under the age of 16 (and total income earned by the
child is less than $420 per year) you can claim a Child
Tax Exemption and you do not need to give your Tax
File Number.
• The parent(s)/guardian(s), grandparent(s) or a relative
can be the registered signatory on the account.
• All capital is guaranteed by The Uniting Church
in Australia Property Trust (Victoria).
