Farewell
Volume 6, Issue 2
Message from the Outgoing
Sacramento Post SAME President
To the Great Sacramento Post, Society of American Military Engineers
As I prepare to move from Sacramento to Winchester, Virginia, I wanted to
share a few thoughts with you. Your Sacramento SAME Post is strong, alive,
and well. Post membership continues to grow in all categories; more importantly,
Post service to the membership and the private-public engineer partnership
continues to improve as well. No where is this partnership more evident
than in the actual running of the Post. I am constantly reminded of the extraordinary
service that your Post officers, directors, committee chairs, and other
volunteer members perform on behalf of SAME. Truly, this volunteer, service
ethic makes the Sacramento Post great, and this was manifest again this year
in the many streamers awarded to the Post. Your Post is relevant, and making
a difference across a broad array of venues, from the annual MathCounts competition,
golf tournament, and sustaining member forum, to engineering scholarships,
support to a local women's shelter, and of course the 2007 Levee Conference.
As I reflect on all the Post has done the past three years, it is clear that
little would have occurred without the service and commitment of so many of
you! If you have not yet volunteered to serve in some way, I urge you to do
so. I am willing to bet that you will find that the greatest rewards are in serving.
This is certainly true of my experience, and as I depart for another assignment,
I am grateful to have had a part in the Post's success. Keep the Post
alive--keep serving!
Respectfully,
Colonel Ron Light
The Sacramento Post Board Members wish to thank Col. Light for his
commitment and dedication to the Post over the past three years. We
all wish Col. Light and his family the best in all future endeavors.
