160 Innovation at Siemens Turning Torso building, Malmö, Sweden Artificial lighting is responsible for around 19% of the world’s power consumption! In the Turning Torso building, 14,000 Osram light diodes illuminate the floor corridors inside the building. Energy-saving bulbs and LEDs provide the same level of lighting while reducing the power consumption by around 80%. If all of the world’s bulbs were replaced by energy-saving bulbs or LEDs, this would correspond to a reduction of 450 million tons CO2 per year at the current global power mix – almost half of Germany’s greenhouse gas emissions.
