The purpose of the NYS <strong>ESL</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Standards</strong> is to guide local decision making in the development of curriculum,<br />

instruction, and assessments for all LEP/ELLs. The <strong>ESL</strong> standards articulate the abilities and competencies<br />

that LEP/ELLs must demonstrate to successfully integrate into the English academic mainstream.<br />

This response form is being used throughout <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> <strong>State</strong> to collect data on this draft of the <strong>New</strong> <strong>York</strong> <strong>State</strong><br />

<strong>ESL</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> <strong>Standards</strong>. The next version of this document will reflect comments from those who respond.<br />
