Physiotherapy M (graduate entry)
Course outline
In this graduate entry masters degree, a series of coursework
units provide students with foundation knowledge in a
range of specialist and practical areas. Students complete
case studies and clinical practice that helps them integrate
their knowledge into well-informed clinical decision making.
Studies emphasise evidence-based practice and encourage
students to think critically when making decisions. Note:
Participation is obligatory in laboratory classes which require
appropriate disrobing when acting as clients in the peer
group, and physically manipulating patients including lifting
and supporting people with disabilities.
Career outlook
Graduates are eligible for registration with the Physiotherapy
Board of Australia and membership of the Australian
Physiotherapy Association. Registration for practice enables
graduates, once registered, to practise physiotherapy in
all Australian states and territories. Graduates may also
apply for registration in New Zealand. If you are applying for
registration in the USA, UK or Canada, you will be required
Sunila Peterson
Master of Counselling Psychology
I was strongly drawn to this degree because of the
opportunity to learn from high-calibre teaching staff.
I have been both grateful and inspired by the depth
and richness of content and practical knowledge that
teachers have brought to their sessions. This includes
their ability to communicate this knowledge in a
meaningful manner, their intuition in identifying the
learning gaps and guiding students to bridge these
gaps in a manner that provides empowerment and
independence, and the care they take in providing
honest, clear and balanced feedback. All this
helped me to improve and ultimately become an
excellent counsellor.
Psychology M
Course outline
This course provides students with advanced training
in either clinical or counselling psychology, through a
combination of coursework, practical placements and
research. There are two majors available: clinical psychology
and counselling psychology. The clinical psychology major
provides students with the knowledge, skills and experience
needed to practise as a clinical psychologist, and focuses on
understanding and applying contemporary evidence-based
practice in the assessment, treatment and prevention of
mental health problems. The counselling psychology major
prepares graduates in assessment, diagnosis, and evidencebased
psychotherapy for individuals, couples, families,
children and groups. Counselling psychologists work with
a wide range of mental health disorders and psychological
difficulties.
Career outlook
This course provides access to a wide variety of employment
opportunities. Graduates have obtained work in a
range of high profile government and non-government
counselling and mental health services. Many have attained
management or senior roles in these organisations. Other
graduates work in private practice where they are eligible
to claim rebates for their clients from Medicare and most
private health funds. Graduates are eligible to apply for
registration as psychologists with the Psychology Board
of Australia. Following two years of supervised practice,
graduates may be eligible to apply for membership of the
Australian Psychological Society’s (APS) College of Clinical
Psychology or Counselling Psychology, and endorsement by
the Psychology Board of Australia as a clinical psychologist
or counselling psychologist.
