The plates must be in good condition and readable, and<br />

The plates can only be transferred to the same type of vehicle,<br />

When you transfer plates:<br />

The expiration date of the registration will remain the same,<br />

Expired plates cannot be transferred, unless registration fees are paid at the time of plate<br />

transfer, and<br />

You must pay a plate transfer fee of $6; and<br />

• Figure and pay all applicable fees:<br />

Title fees,<br />

Registration fees (most new vehicles are registered for four years, however, there are<br />

exceptions),<br />

Plate fees; and<br />

• Submit your completed application, supporting materials and payment to DMV.<br />

How to Submit Your Application<br />

Take the vehicle, your completed application, supporting materials and payment to a regular or fullservice<br />

DMV office.<br />

Make checks or money orders payable to “Oregon DMV."<br />

Note: Due to the additional costs of associated merchant fees, DMV offices only accept cash and checks<br />

and do not accept credit or debit cards; however many office locations have ATMs available.<br />

How Long Will It Take<br />

If everything is in order, plates and stickers will be issued immediately at the DMV office.<br />

Titles are mailed to applicants about three to five weeks after DMV receives the necessary paperwork.
