The digital market is dynamic.
Imaging technologies change over time.
Digital innovation has, and continues to
revolutionize the graphic arts at a unprecedented
rate. Innovative graphic arts firms
have embraced these new technologies,
brought them into their shops, and now
have increased profitability, expanded
offerings, and enjoy double-digit growth.
Enjoying the benefits of growth,
the market is hungry for more. The design
and graphic arts market, composed of sign
shops, quick printers, and traditional commercial
printers read Digital Output as a
primary resource in their search for knowledge.
Our application stories, industry coverage,
and your high-impact advertisements
in our unique tabloid presentation, provide
a primary resource in their search for
opportunity.
In July 2005, our research showed that the
billions of dollars that advertisers, merchandisers,
and print buyers spent on wide
format materials in 2005 is expected to rise
even more through 2006. The wide format
graphics market is becoming increasingly
competitive as technologies such as
eco-solvents and UV grow.
Designers and agencies are stretching the
limits of their marketing messages by
employing the latest creative tools such as
software, intelligent color management,
RIPs, media, and wide format options.
The software industry is booming. From
creation software, to new ink and media
choices, just about every product has a
newer, better version that promises to
deliver on designers’ requests.
Photographers are using digital technology
to capture images for large format output.
At the same time, large format scanners are
being used by a multitude of organizations.
Enterprises are preserving records to meet
regulatory compliance, construction companies
are copying blue prints, and municipal
organizations are reproducing maps with
the use of large format scanners.
Ink, Media, and Hardware Revenue
Wide format inkjet ink revenues will
grow from $3.1 billion in 2004 to $4.6 billion
in 2009, a CAGR of eight percent driven
by the increasing installed base of printers. In
terms of total market revenue, inkjet ink revenues
will grow from 43 percent of total market
revenues in 2004 to 46 percent in 2009.
Wide format inkjet media revenues
will grow from $2.7 billion in 2004 to $3.8
billion in 2009, a CAGR of seven percent.
In terms of market revenues, media revenues
will increase from 36 percent in 2004 to 38
percent in 2009, driven by the increasing use
of high value specialty media such as vinyl,
fabric, canvas, etc., as well as the increasing
hardware installed base.
Wide format inkjet graphics hardware
revenues are predicted to grow from
$1.5 billion in 2004 to $1.6 billion in 2009,
a CAGR of one percent. In terms of total
market revenues, wide format inkjet hardware
revenues will decrease from 21 percent
in 2004 to 16 percent in 2009, driven down
by continually declining hardware prices.
