Recommendation for using Enviroguard
Crankcase Ventilation Kit CV50106 for Cummins
B-series Mechanical Engines
The Enviroguard OCV kit (CV50106) can be installed on Cummins B Series
Mechanical Engines as well as ISB versions. The differences in the steps
outlined in the ISB installation manual are: 1) connecting the new breather hose
to the existing wire mesh metal breather box and 2) installing and mounting of
the new breather assembly using the service part bracket #393814000S.
The following information addresses both of these issues:
Most B Series, Mechanical engines have a factory installed wire mesh breather.
The breather is located at the rear, left side wall of the engine. Both figures 1
and 2 show the location of the factory breather behind the spin-on filters.
Figure 1: B-series Mechanical engine with the “yellow circle” identifying the approximate
location of the standard wire mesh breather.

Figure 2: Location of the breather outlet port which is a 3/4" O.D. bent steel tube, clamped
to a rubber hose that currently vents oil directly to the atmosphere.
Installing the Breather Inlet Hose Assembly
(Steps 12, 13, and 14 in the ISB Installation Manual)
Step 12 – Remove the clamp and the existing .75 inch (19 mm) ID hose from the
bent steel tube shown above.
Step 13 – Secure the 1 inch (25 mm) ID inlet hose end to the new breather
assembly using the clamp provided.
Step 14 – Route the new inlet hose assembly to the existing bent steel tube.
Trim the .75 inch (19mm) ID hose end to proper length and secure with clamp.
CAUTION: Ensure the hose routing is a minimum of 4 inches (100 mm)
from both the exhaust manifold and exhaust piping. Avoid trimming too
short to prevent hose kink after installation.

Mounting Bracket/Breather Assembly Installation
The mounting bracket #393814000S (optional with the Kit CV50106) can be used
for installing the OCV breather to a location in the engine compartment. This
bracket is supplied as a flat component but can be modified (Fig. 3, right photo)
to address different installation options.
Figure 3: The flat mounting bracket can be shop modified depending on the mounting
location and available space in the engine compartment.
OTHER KEY INSTALLATION POINTS:
Hose Assembly Installation, Shielding, and Routing:
1. Special attention must be give to all hose assemblies in the kit to
ensure they are properly shielded from hot areas of the engine. If
any hose assembly is less than 4” from the exhaust manifold area, a
metal tube should be used for heat protection. For distances of
more than 4”, but still in heat intense areas, shield the hose for heat
protection.
2. There should at least be a 14” vertical clearance between the
breather assembly and the drain port into the engine oil pan. The
drain hose must be free of any kinks or abrupt bends to ensure
proper oil drainage. Ensure the check valve in the drain tube is
always in a vertical position.
