T
our luck held and it was sailing at its best. Here are
the results.
ixty
of the best dressed Angels and Demons, goblins
and ghouls around our parts gathered to have a ghostly
good time on Saturday, October 30, at the Portland
Yacht Club, a once-a-year transformation.
Your ballroom became a graveyard with the help of Bruce
Wiedemann. A human trapped in a giant spider web and an
embalming station for ghouls brought the graveyard to life –
or afterlife. The fabulous table decorations were done by our
very own Mary Ann Nitchie. What artists we have lurking in
our midst – unseen, plotting their midnight makeovers!
Laura Mack orchestrated the banquet menu, and everyone
enjoyed the feast of pork tenderloin with apple compote
sauce, garlicky green beans, roasted sweet potatoes, spinach
salad with pears and gorgonzola. A marvelous Devils food
ganache cake was most appropriate to the occasion.
Thanks to Dale Mack, Jim Sinclair, Larry Snyder and a number
of my neighbors for volunteering on the race committee.
Also thanks to Mike Stainsby, Arden Newbrook and Dave
Hickman for hearing a request for regress. Mary Stainsby, as
usual, was always ready with the food after the races.
The support and enjoyment received this year has been very
rewarding.
Ruth Parr decorated the sign-in area as the entrance to
Heaven, so as not to be biased, Julie Hinkley decorated the
bar as Hell. The ghost of Aimee Semple McPherson was
probably amused. In any case, all of the spirits were consumed
with glee.
We really must do this again next year.
