Course Outline<br />

MS Office 2007: Overview and Quick Tips is a free in-class, 2-day course for women<br />

interested in gaining understanding of how MS Office 2007 works, specifically MS Word<br />

and MS Excel software. Benefit from a one-stop training and employment facility with<br />

access to a resource centre and computer labs in a women-only environment.<br />

By the end of this program you will:<br />

• Have a good understanding of the purpose of two MS Office 2007 programs (Word & Excel)<br />

• Understand the MS Office 2007 interface and how to access commonly used functions<br />

• Learn tips on how to use productivity tools and how to troubleshoot common mistakes,<br />

making you work more efficiently in Word and Excel<br />

• Create professional looking business documents in Word and Excel<br />

Who are these workshops for:<br />

• Participants who possess basic computer skills (knowledge of keyboard and mouse,<br />

some Internet skills)<br />

• Language skills (comprehension and verbal skills level appropriate for participating<br />

in workshops)<br />

• Creating business documents in MS Word 2007: letters, résumés<br />

• Creating and troubleshooting bulleted and numbered lists<br />

• Changing line and paragraphs spacing<br />

• Using font styles and effects<br />

• Inserting pictures and other graphic elements<br />

• Setting up documents for printout and troubleshooting printing problems<br />

• Understanding and navigating Excel workspace: workbook, worksheet, rows,<br />

columns, cells<br />

• Setting up a simple worksheet:<br />

— Entering and editing data<br />

— Formatting data font, font colour, borders, fill colour<br />

— Applying number formats<br />

— Managing alignment<br />

• Creating simple formulas<br />

• Using simple mathematical functions: sum, average, min, count<br />

• Preparing Excel spreadsheets for printing<br />
