1 Formation of
German Chapter of
ESMI
Andreas explains that there is a German “network” (group of 20-30 people) of MI
research that met recently in Berlin and that would like to officially become the
“German Chapter” of the ESMI.
The Question is whether the ESMI approves having national chapters in the
Society. Everybody agreed on inviting people to form a national chapter within
the ESMI. Andreas will create a letter of invitation (call) to the Germany group
that will be sent to the Exec. Com. before sending it to the group and could then
be used for other nationalities as well.
Statutes might to be changed in regards to this. (will be revised anyway by Heike
and Simone)

1 EMIM 2010 Detailed budget proposals (see also enclosed excel file) have been received and
compared by the following DiMI partners:
• Antwerpen – Annemie van der Linden
• Warsaw – Renata Mikolajczak
• Prague - Ivan Lukes
• Salzburg – Ludwig Aigner
• Oslo – Harald Carlsen
The three most expensive venues in regards to the costs of the meeting space
are excluded (Oslo, Antwerp Zoo, and Salzburg).
Antwerp University sounds interesting, but it must be checked whether the
Monday, 12 April 2010 is also available as there is also an IEEE Meeting in
Rotterdam during that week.
In regards to Warsaw, one must check the availability of the meeting space on
Saturday, 29 May 2010 as flights are often cheaper when a week-end day is
included.
Furthermore, Hotel accommodation and flights should be checked in order to
compare both cities in regards to costs.
As EMIM 2011 will be in Leiden and last year’s DiMI/EMIL Annual Meeting was in
Leuven, the Benelux countries are geographically already very well represented.
Therefore the majority is in favour of Warsaw. Andreas points out that Antwerp
has Annemie as driving force. Silvio explains that Renata has organised a great
meeting this spring in Warsaw.
Heike will send email with further information to Exec. Com. for voting between
Warsaw and Antwerp. Council must be informed that they might need to approve
on short notice.
2 TOPIM 2010 Topic: Imaging systems biology
Bertrand received the letter from the ESF Research Networking Programmes.
The proposal for a 5-year support to TOPIM was not successful this time. The
reason does not appear to be related to the grading of the proposal (it was noted
43/44, 39/40 and 39/40 by the reviewers) but rather to diverging views between
physicists (PESC) and biologists (EMRC). Bertrand will ask the ESF to clarify
their position in order to test whether it can be resubmitted better next year.

In the meantime, TOPIM should secure other sources of support. Therefore,
Bertrand will send the ESF Report and letter around. Everybody should use this
report and letter to lobby for TOPIM.
With 700€ registration fee per participant, ESMI should be able to organise
TOPIM without the ESF Funding (75 participants whereof 25 invited speakers
50 participantsx700€=35.000€. Simone will check the 2009 budget
Silvio will check whether a bi-national contribution (Italy-France) could be possible

1. Heike presents letter to EIBIR; letter will be sent around to Exec. Com. for
approval.
2. Minutes of meeting with ESR in Barcelona were received by everybody.
First test-announcement will be sent this week
3. ESMI – EANM: participation in meetings every 2nd year e.g. 2010 ESMI
participating in EANM with optical Imaging, Meeting in Barcelona is
planned to discuss details
1. ESMI Committees EANM 2010 – ESMI: OI Session (ESMI OI Committee
in regards to ESMI session within EANM Meeting 2010, Chair: TBD
2. ESMI Training Committee led by Elena? Elena must be asked how to
follow up the DiMI/EMIL TTPs, EMMI etc.;
