<strong>Ahmad</strong> <strong>Magad</strong> is Group Managing Director of II-VI IR Optics Manufacturing<br />

Operations in Asia, with facilities in Singapore and Suzhou, China. Both are<br />

subsidiaries of Nasdaq-Listed II-VI Incorporated. The company is specialised<br />

in the manufacture of infrared materials, optical components and systems for<br />

applications in the industrial, military and medical fields.<br />

In January 1997 he was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Pasir Ris<br />

Group Representation Constituency (GRC), and in March 2001 and again, in<br />

May 2006, was re-elected as MP for the reconstituted Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC.<br />

He has also served as Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee<br />

(GPC) for Finance and Trade & Industry and the GPC for Manpower for 3<br />

years each and as Deputy Chairman for the GPC for Education for 2 years. He<br />

was also appointed Chairman of the Estimates Committee of Parliament) in<br />

August 2008, a position he held until his retirement from politics in May 2011.<br />

He was Deputy Chairman of the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) for 10<br />

years and has also has served as Board member of the Singapore Productivity<br />

and Standards Board (SPRING Singapore), the Public Utilities Board, the<br />

Energy Market Authority and more recently, the Accounting and Corporate<br />

Regulatory Authority (ACRA). He is currently a council member of the<br />

National Productivity and Continuing Education Council and also serves on the<br />

Board of the Workforce Development Agency, which is concerned with<br />

employability and continuing education of the Singapore workforce.<br />

<strong>Ahmad</strong> <strong>Magad</strong> is also President of the Singapore Productivity Association - a<br />

position he held since 1999. He also sits in the Councils of the Singapore<br />

Institute of Directors and the Singapore Manufacturers Federation (as Vice-<br />

President) and is also Advisor to the Singapore Institute of Management<br />

Consultants. He also serves as Chairman of the Senate and the Academic<br />

Advisory Committee of the Management Development Institute of Singapore<br />

(MDIS), which conducts degree programs at under-graduate, post-graduate and<br />

doctoral levels in collaboration with various accredited universities. He is also<br />

a Council Member of the Asia Pacific Quality Organization.


As an alumni member of the Asian Institute of Management, he was awarded<br />

the prestigious Alumni Achievement Award (Triple ‘A’ Award) in 2002 for<br />

distinguished achievement in management education and recognition of his<br />

contribution to society. He was also accorded the Achiever of the Year award<br />

by the Singapore Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004.<br />

<strong>Ahmad</strong> <strong>Magad</strong> obtained the Public Service Commission Scholarship in 1971<br />

for a course of study in Germany leading to the Inginieur Grad (Graduate<br />

Engineer) in Precision Engineering (Feinwerktechnik) with specialization in<br />

Optics. He also holds a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) from<br />

Brunel University (UK), an MBA and an Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in<br />

Management Consultancy from the Henley Business School (UK).<br />

He is also a Fellow Member of CPA (Australia) and the Chartered Institute of<br />

Marketing (UK).
