Bill Condon
Bonnie and Clyde
The links between Arthur Penn’s Bonnie and Clyde and the films of Bill
Condon aren’t apparent at first. But a deeper reading reveals that both
deal with outsiders doing what comes naturally to them, thereby testing
the limits of society.
Condon points out that the themes of sexuality running through the
film greatly affected him at his own moment of self-discovery. “There was
something about Bonnie and Clyde that I think I connected to at a very, very
basic level,” he said. “There’s a whole sexual tension there that I think was
speaking to me in some way that I didn’t even understand.”
