It’s a supremely self-conscious piece of work. When I was watching it
for the first time, I’d never felt that in a movie. I’ve never felt as conscious of
the fact that I was watching something and having to make an assessment
of it, and that my relationship was shifting it all the time. You were talking
before about what is seductive. That to me is really erotic, that all my senses
are engaged in trying to come to terms with something, trying to fix it in a
certain place.
