computer-aided design software and systems so students<br />

can conceptualize directly on the computer, visualize<br />

projects before they are built, produce digital portfolios<br />

and publish on the Internet. The ELAC Department of<br />

Architecture provides a creative, dynamic setting where<br />

each individual can realize their full potential.<br />

The Department of Architecture is staffed with experienced, licensed architects,<br />

designers, artists, interior designers, general contractors, engineers and computer<br />

experts. Many still practice in the field and students benefit from a wealth of experience<br />

in the real world. Faculty members counsel each student personally so<br />

they complete the program efficiently. Students go directly into the profession or<br />

transfer to a university degree program.<br />

Success = High Tech Classrooms<br />

Classrooms are spacious and equipped with modern equipment and computer<br />

systems. A complete model construction lab and computer center provides stateof-the-art<br />

tools for each student. Computer software includes the latest releases<br />

of AutoCAD, 3D Studio VIZ, MAX, form•Z, Lightscape, SketchUp, Revit, Photoshop<br />

and other essential programs that allow students to create professional portfolios<br />

and résumés critical to transferring to universities or getting a job. Many ELAC<br />

architectural students work in the profession while completing their education,<br />

learning while they are earning.<br />

Success = University Transfer<br />

An ELAC Associates Degree and completion of lower division university academic<br />

requirements prepares graduates to transfer to a university. Our graduates are<br />

then ready to enter the third year of a university program in architecture, urban<br />

planning, landscape architecture, interior design and environmental design.<br />

Current articulation agreements for third year transfer are available from<br />

Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) and Woodbury University.<br />

Numerous graduates transfer into the second year at the USC, Cal Poly Pomona,<br />

UC Berkeley and UCLA. The ELAC Department of Architecture has one of the highest<br />

university transfer rates in California.<br />

Success Costs Less @ ELAC<br />

Tuition is low, less than $400 per semester for a full time student who is a<br />

California resident. Plus, we make it easier for working students to attend classes<br />

by providing support services such as loans, financial aid, childcare, tutoring,<br />

scholarships, health care and more.<br />

Admission is Easy<br />

Anyone 18 years or older qualifies for admission to <strong>East</strong> <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> <strong>College</strong>.<br />

People under 18 qualify if they graduated from high school or if they have passed<br />

the California High School Proficiency Test. High school students may concurrently<br />

enroll at ELAC with the consent of their parents and high school principal<br />

to get an early start on their college education and pay no tuition.<br />

Architecture faculty members have vital connections with numerous professional<br />

associations and the construction industry, which provide valuable<br />

assistance to our students while they attend college and seek employment.<br />

Certificate and Associate degrees are offered in Architectural Drafting and<br />

Architectural Computer Aided Design preparing graduates for jobs in architecture,<br />

engineering, construction and other related businesses as well as<br />

in government and military service.
