Applic<strong>an</strong>t Requirements <strong>to</strong> take the test:<br />

A. An applic<strong>an</strong>t for certification must be of good moral character, high<br />

integrity, good repute, <strong>an</strong>d must possess a high ethical <strong>an</strong>d professional<br />

st<strong>an</strong>ding.<br />

B. All applic<strong>an</strong>ts must submit two letters of endorsement from individuals<br />

other th<strong>an</strong> themselves, one of which must be from <strong>an</strong> individual actively<br />

working in the area of forensic video. One letter must be from a current<br />

IAI member. <strong>The</strong>se should be addressed <strong>to</strong> the James Schroering, the<br />

Head of the <strong>Video</strong> <strong>Certification</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>Committee</strong>.<br />

C. Technical Training Required:<br />

Minimum of 120 hours of instruction in fields of study related <strong>to</strong> forensic<br />

video <strong>is</strong> required. <strong>The</strong> course hours must have some type of certificate of<br />

completion. Courses without certificates <strong>offer</strong>ed <strong>to</strong> meet the<br />

aforementioned training requirements will be evaluated by the Board.<br />

A minimum of three (3) years of current practice within the d<strong>is</strong>cipline of<br />

Forensic <strong>Video</strong>, including the required 120 hours of training, must be<br />

documented.<br />

a. Dates of training course must be provided.<br />

b. Documentation required for time in d<strong>is</strong>cipline may be provided<br />

in the following m<strong>an</strong>ner:<br />

1. Tr<strong>an</strong>scripts of testimony (electronic copies only)<br />

2. Articles publ<strong>is</strong>hed (electronic copies only)<br />

3. Instructional activities (documented)<br />

4. Other me<strong>an</strong>s of establ<strong>is</strong>hing time in d<strong>is</strong>cipline (<strong>to</strong><br />

be approved by the board)<br />

c. Documentation provided will be approved by review <strong>an</strong>d at<br />

the d<strong>is</strong>cretion of the board<br />

D. Education Requirements:<br />

1. A Bachelor’s Degree plus two (3) years full-time experience as<br />

prescribed by the video certification board.<br />

or<br />

2. An Associate Degree (or documentation of 60 semester hours or 90<br />

quarter hours of college credits) plus four (4) years full-time<br />

experience as a prescribed by the video certification board.


or<br />

3. Five (5) years full-time experience as prescribed by the video<br />

certification board.<br />

E. Experience Required:<br />

An applic<strong>an</strong>t for certification must be primarily employed in the field of<br />

Digital <strong>an</strong>d Multimedia evidence whose duties include forensic video.<br />

Minimum of three (3) years current full-time experience in the field of<br />

Digital <strong>an</strong>d Multimedia evidence. A minimum of 50% of the applic<strong>an</strong>t’s<br />

time should be spent in video examinations.<br />

F. Fees<br />

Non-refundable application fee of $150 (US) must accomp<strong>an</strong>y <strong>an</strong>y<br />

application.<br />

G. General Prov<strong>is</strong>ion Concerning <strong>Certification</strong><br />

1. <strong>The</strong> right <strong>to</strong> deny certification <strong>is</strong> reserved by the Forensic <strong>Video</strong><br />

<strong>Certification</strong> Board.<br />

2. Applic<strong>an</strong>ts who are denied certification by the Forensic <strong>Video</strong><br />

<strong>Certification</strong> Board may appeal such action in writing <strong>to</strong> the IAI<br />

Board of Direc<strong>to</strong>rs within sixty (60) days of such notification.<br />

3. <strong>The</strong> certificate <strong>is</strong>sued by the IAI <strong>is</strong> non-tr<strong>an</strong>sferable. <strong>The</strong>y<br />

remain the property of the IAI. However, every person <strong>to</strong> whom<br />

a certificate has been <strong>is</strong>sued shall be entitled <strong>to</strong> its continued<br />

possession unless, or until, such certificate <strong>is</strong> revoked.<br />

4. Certificates are <strong>is</strong>sued for a period of five (5) years, subject <strong>to</strong><br />

renewal upon application by a member. Such application for<br />

renewal shall be subjected <strong>to</strong> st<strong>an</strong>dards in effect at the time of<br />

the request for renewal <strong>an</strong>d payment of the establ<strong>is</strong>hed fee.<br />

5. Membership in the IAI, or <strong>an</strong>y of its state or regional div<strong>is</strong>ions, <strong>is</strong><br />

not m<strong>an</strong>da<strong>to</strong>ry for certification.<br />

6. Certificates may be suspended or revoked by the Forensic<br />

<strong>Video</strong> <strong>Certification</strong> Board for <strong>an</strong>y of the following reasons:<br />

a. Violation of the IAI, or Forensic <strong>Video</strong> <strong>Certification</strong> Board<br />

code of ethics.


. A m<strong>is</strong>statement, m<strong>is</strong>representation, concealment, or<br />

om<strong>is</strong>sion of a material fact or facts in <strong>an</strong> application or<br />

<strong>an</strong>y other communication related <strong>to</strong> certification.<br />

c. Conviction of a holder of <strong>an</strong> IAI certification, or holder of<br />

<strong>an</strong> IAI certification, by a court of competent jur<strong>is</strong>diction of<br />

a felony, or <strong>an</strong>y crime involving moral turpitude.<br />

d. Issu<strong>an</strong>ce of a certificate contrary <strong>to</strong>, or in violation of, <strong>an</strong>y<br />

of the laws, st<strong>an</strong>dards, rules, or regulations, of the IAI: or<br />

determination that the person certified was not, in fact,<br />

eligible <strong>to</strong> receive such certificate at the time of its<br />

<strong>is</strong>su<strong>an</strong>ce.<br />

e. Unethical conduct, or other conduct, by a holder of a<br />

certificate that brings the specialty of Forensic <strong>Video</strong> in<strong>to</strong><br />

d<strong>is</strong>pute.<br />

Application Steps<br />

In order <strong>to</strong> apply <strong>to</strong> take the test <strong>an</strong>d reserve your spot, the following steps must<br />

be followed:<br />

1. Electronically fill out the application form <strong>an</strong>d gather the required<br />

documents. No h<strong>an</strong>dwritten applications will be accepted.<br />

2. Email a copy of the completed application form <strong>to</strong> jschroering@gmail.com.<br />

Include in the email:<br />

• Specify the location you would like <strong>to</strong> attend. If you are able <strong>to</strong><br />

attend at either location, indicate which location <strong>is</strong> your primary<br />

choice.<br />

• Indicate whether you are a current IAI member, provide number<br />

• Whether you will be able <strong>to</strong> sit on the certification board<br />

Th<strong>is</strong> email must be received no later th<strong>an</strong> April 1, 2011.<br />

You will receive confirmation when you have been placed for a seat. You<br />

must still complete Step 3 by the required deadline or your seat will<br />

be forfeited.<br />

3. Mail the completed application form, required documents, <strong>an</strong>d check do<br />

not send cash) <strong>to</strong> the address l<strong>is</strong>ted on the application form. Th<strong>is</strong> must<br />

be received no later th<strong>an</strong> April 8, 2011.
