Dogs Injured While Racing in
New Hampshire, 2005-2006
INTRODUCTION
In July 2004 the New Hampshire Legislature approved House Bill 520, requiring that commercial dog
tracks report on all dogs injured while racing in the state. This requirement appears as RSA 284,
Section 14-d.
The following is a review of all injury reports for calendar years 2005 and 2006.
716 REPORTED INJURIES
According to state records, over the past two years more than 700 dogs have been injured while racing
in New Hampshire, including dogs that suffered broken bones, torn muscles, and paralysis.

Injury Category Descriptions:
Laceration includes abrasions, cuts, bruising, puncture and bite wounds.
Muscle Tear includes sprains, strains, ruptures, and dropped or pulled muscles.
Dislocation includes luxation, separation of bones, and severed bones.
Other includes paralysis, trauma, pinched nerves, bleeding, bruising, infection, limp, swelling,
tendonitis, inflammation or myositis, spiked webs, soreness, and “jammed.”
