GREY2K USA February 1, 2007 Directors Christine A. Dorchak, Esq. President Kevin Neuman, Vice President Kansas City Retired Greyhounds as Pets Twig Mowatt, Secretary Sara Amundson Humane Society Legislative Fund Tom Grey National Coalition Against Gambling Expansion Paul LaFlamme Charmaine Settle Michael Trombley, CPA Carey M. Theil Executive Director Organizational Listing is for Identification Purposes Only Honorable Members of the General Court: In the following report, you will find information related to commercial dog racing in New Hampshire. Currently, dog races are authorized at three facilities in our state: Seabrook Greyhound Park, Hinsdale Greyhound Park, and the Lodge at Belmont. This report documents official injury reports provided to the public by the New Hampshire Pari-Mutuel Commission, which is charged with regulating dog racing. According to the Commission, over the past two years more than 700 dogs have been injured while racing in New Hampshire, including dogs that suffered broken bones and paralysis. Also included is a series of photographs that depict conditions inside local commercial dog tracks. These photographs were taken in 2006 by the Pari-Mutuel Commission and obtained through public information requests. Dogs play an important role in our lives, and deserve to be protected from individuals and industries that would do them harm. As the state considers the future of commercial dog racing, it is important that facts relative to the dogs themselves be a central part of the debate. I trust that the documentation in this report will be helpful to you as you weigh policy decisions regarding commercial dog racing. Respectfully, Michael S. Trombley, CPA Former Deputy Director NH Pari-Mutuel Commission Paul G. LaFlamme Former State Representative Nashua, NH Protecting Greyhounds Nationwide P.O.
