SUPRA PDM Windows Client
provides Client-Server access
for your PC applications:
• Communicates with OpenVMS
SUPRA, SUPRA UNIX and IBM
z/OS SUPRA via TCP/IP
• Support for all DML.
• Support for all platform
data formats
• Use with COBOL, C, C++
or Visual Basic applications
• Support for 64-bit
Windows platforms
• Now, a standard component
available with all Supra upgrades
Included with the PDM
Windows Client product is a
free, full-function copy of
two SUPRA PDM Windows
utilities (the Linkpath Editor
and the SUPRA PDM
Database Monitor). The
Linkpath Editor allows you
to both display and update
linkpath chains—in order to
correct ICHN errors—and
can be an invaluable tool for
most DBAs. The PDM
Database Monitor is another
very useful DBA tool
enabling you to monitor
your SUPRA PDM database
resources. Both utilities
illustrate the power of the
PDM Windows Client.
Client/Server PC Access to PDM Data
Cincom SUPRA ®
SUPRA Server PDM users have long enjoyed the benefits of a fast and
economical database in their high-volume transaction processing. Now
your IT organization can reap these same benefits for applications
running in the Windows XP, 2007 and Server 2008 environments.
PDM Windows Client allows quick access to SUPRA PDM data for
Windows applications, without heavy investments in training and new
middleware. Using your PDML expertise and PC client support, your
staff can create new applications and migrate them to the PC, as well
as write graphical user interface tools and utilities for PCs.
With PDM Windows Client, you can extend platform support—for
OpenVMS VAX or Alpha, UNIX and IBM z/OS SUPRA PDM
applications—to the PCs deployed throughout your organization,
thus leveraging your staff’s current interface and language skills, and
all without jeopardizing your investment in SUPRA Server PDM.
PDM Windows Client communicates with OpenVMS and
UNIX servers using the TCP/IP formats and protocols
currently used by the servers. In the IBM environment, a
TCP/IP server is provided.
You can also run the PDM Windows Client in an IBM
compatibility mode when using UNIX and Linux SUPRA.
This is useful when migrating databases to the UNIX or
Linux platforms. If need, the PDM Windows Client can also
convert IBM data formats to ASCII.
The following illustration depicts the options for installing
and using the PDM Windows Client:
Applications communicate with the client component. This
is implemented as a Windows DLL. The client component
provides all data conversion and maintains the socket to
communicate with the server component. The server
component issues DML to SUPRA PDM and maintains
sockets to communicate with client components.
The PDM Windows Client is now a standard SUPRA
component and is available with all SUPRA upgrades at
no cost.
