ArtsNorth Choir Rehearsal – first Tuesday back in Term 3 – Tuesday 16 July
Just a reminder that all orange notes for choir need to be returned to Mrs Bolger by this Friday. It
would be appreciated if they were all returned by this date as these permission notes are for your
child to attend the rehearsal on the Tuesday at Chatswood High School.
At this stage, we are in desperate need of parent helpers to transport students from Hornsby Station
on Tuesday 16 July. Please see Mrs Bolger as soon as possible if you can be of any assistance. She
will be eternally grateful!! Today a note went home with students involved in this concert regarding
the ticketing arrangements. Please note that the school cannot purchase tickets. Each parent, or
group of parents, needs to book their own tickets.
Debating
Last Wednesday, the friendly debating competition
began for the year. Our first debate was against
Glenorie Public School. The topic for this debate was-
“Television is better than books” and we were the
affirmative team. Both teams came up with some
exceptional arguments and worthy rebuttals, leaving
the Galston High School adjudicator, Georgina
Trotter, with a very difficult decision. However,
Galston Public School won on the day.
Congratulations to all debaters who helped with
organising, debating and preparing the team’s case.
Peer Support
Congratulations to all Year 6 students on their marvellous leadership skills. Peer support lessons have
come to an end for this term, and the groups will only meet a few times next term. The lessons were
a great success, focusing on valuable friendship skills, respect for one another and making safe choices
when riding bikes and skateboards. The luncheon was a fun way to conclude our lessons. Well done
to all students. I hope you enjoyed the time in your Peer Groups.
Stewart House Bags
Today a Stewart House clothing bag was sent home with each child. Please fill the bag with any
clothing items that are no longer required and return the bag to the office. All bags must be returned
to school by next Tuesday. Thank you for your anticipated support of Stewart House.
University of New South Wales Writing and Spelling Competitions
On Monday 17 June the UNSW writing competition will take place. On Tuesday 18 June the UNSW
spelling competition will take place. Please make sure that all children who have entered the
competitions are at school on the day of the test.
School Reports and Parent Teacher Conferences
Student reports for semester one will be sent home on Monday 24 June. Parent teacher conferences
will occur during week 9 for all classes. If you have not returned the parent teacher conference reply
slip, please do so as soon as possible.
P & C Meeting - Tuesday 13 August at 7.30pm in Library Page 2
As part of our school student reports, we provide information regarding your child’s effort in each
Key Learning Area, as well as his/her academic performance. The students are graded from 1 to 5 for
effort, with 1 demonstrating little effort and 5 demonstrating outstanding effort. It is very important
to take into consideration a child’s efforts when viewing reports, as it shows the diligence and
commitment to his/her work.
We ask that you take the time to sit and read your child’s report with him/her, highlighting the
positive aspects of the report and also discussing any areas of possible improvement. During the
parent teacher conferences, teachers will be able to provide further information regarding your
child’s academic, social and emotional development.
Galston High School Extension Class Test
On Tuesday 25 June, Galston High School will hold another test for the 2014 extension class. If you
want your child to sit the extension class test for 2014, please arrive at Galston High School at
9.00am for a 9.30am start. If you have any questions regarding the test, please contact Galston High
School on 9651 2222.
2PR
In 2PR we have had a very busy term. In Science and Technology we have been studying ‘Mini
Beasts’. The students have brought in some fantastic models and posters of their chosen ‘Mini Beast’.
In class, the students have written information reports independently and have learnt some new and
interesting facts about their ‘Mini Beasts’. Last week we presented our Assembly item and did a
fantastic job at reciting our poems. We are looking forward to heading to Taronga Zoo on
Wednesday 19 June to learn more about different types of animals.
In maths, we have recently learnt how to multiply and divide numbers and the students are
becoming quite the mathematicians. They are all working very hard and learning lots of new
strategies. Overall, we have had a great term and the students are working hard. Keep up the good
work 2PR!
School Accounts
The term 2 invoices are due for payment this Friday and we thank the many families
who have already paid their account. There are still a number of Term 1 invoices
outstanding and we ask that they be finalised as soon as possible. If there is a problem
with any of these accounts, please contact the school office.
Kindergarten Enrolments for 2014
We have started taking Kindergarten enrolments for 2014. If you have a child who will be enrolling
next year, please assist us by registering your child at the office and completing an enrolment form.
Forms are available from the office. Please bring your child’s birth certificate/passport and
immunisation documents with you. Your assistance in this matter helps with planning for 2014. If
you are aware of a family in the area who has a child who will be enrolling in Kindergarten for 2014,
please ask them to contact the school office.
Woolworths ‘Earn and Learn’ programme
As you know, our school has been participating in the Woolworths Earn & Learn programme. It has
now finished for this year, so a big thanks to everyone who supported our school. We’re now at the
important stage where points sheets are collected and lodged as our ‘Earn & Learn Claim’. We will
then be able to get new educational equipment for our school. The more we collect, the more we can
redeem. So this week please send in your Woolworths Earn & Learn Points Sheets and any loose Earn
& Learn Points Stickers you may have. Also, if you shopped over this last weekend and were told they
had run out of stickers, please send in your receipt as we will attempt to include these purchases in our
claim. Every little bit helps. Thanks again for all your support!
P&C Secretary Position
A special thanks to Diane McEwan for her contribution and generosity as Secretary for the P&C over
the past eight months. Please know that your input has been greatly appreciated. Due to other
ongoing commitments, Diane has stepped down from her position. More thanks go to Stephanie
Abbott and Alison Gierek who have volunteered to share the Secretary role. Thank you, Stephanie and
Alison. We look forward to having you as part of the team.
Canteen Roster Coordinator
We are still looking for a volunteer to take over the role of filling the Canteen Roster. The canteen is a
valued service within our school, with most children loving the opportunity to have a lunch order or
buy a treat over the counter. It is essential that we have a roster coordinator to ensure that sufficient
manpower is available for each canteen opening. Kathy Ballinger has filled this role for quite some
time and is in need of a break, but would be more than happy to provide guidance and support to a
new recruit. If you have some time available to fill this job, please contact Kathy on 0407 413 952 to
discuss. Your attendance at school is not needed to perform this job.
Uniform Shop – In store or online at galstonpandc.org.au
Weekly opening time: Friday from 2.30pm to 3.30pm
Shop Online at: galstonpandc.org.au. Payments for online shopping can be made via direct bank
transfer or by cash, cheque, EFTPOS or credit in the school office.
Canteen
Stock Levels
No Berry Pumped for two weeks due to supplier difficulties. No pretzels for the foreseeable future due
to supply problems. We are trying to source them from another supplier. We may be supplying Big M
chocolate milk instead of Nippy’s as we are changing supplier.
For Sale
Chips! We are not allowed to sell packets of chips over 30gm in the canteen. However we have a
few 45gm bags left over from the Movie Night that we would like to sell. There are both Sea Salt and
Honey Soy, just like we sell in the canteen. If you have a party coming up, or would like to purchase
some chips to help out the canteen, please email Emma at canteen@galstonpandc.org.au or call 0424
166 619. There are approximately 90 packets and we will part with them for $1.35 per packet.
