Full-day course in Biofilm<br />

Learning objectives:<br />

The importance of the bacterial biofilm mode of growth is becoming increasingly<br />

renowned as improved methods to study sessile bacteria have become available.<br />

The course will focus on the impact of biofilms in wounds, and implant associated<br />

areas, as well as addressing difficulties in diagnosis and treatment.<br />

n Brief introduction to bacterial biofilm and its characteristics<br />

n Impact of biofilms in wounds and on implants<br />

n Pitfalls and guidelines in diagnosis of biofilm infections<br />

n Treatment strategies of biofilm infections in wounds and implants<br />

n Future treatment strategies<br />

m COPENHAGEN, DENMARK 4-5 JUNE <strong>2014</strong><br />

2nd practical course in Biofilm Procedures<br />

The biofilm course will introduce the participants to the topic of biofilm and its huge<br />

impact on chronic infections. Through lectures and a full day of hands on experiments,<br />

the participants will gain a vast understanding of biofilms and usable knowledge of how<br />

and why to implement biofilms into their research or product portfolio.<br />

The biofilm groups and the Biofilm Test Facility at the University of Copenhagen and<br />

Rigshospitalet have been investigating bacterial biofilms for 15 years and are regarded<br />

as leading pioneers in the field.<br />
